So Im driving home from the pool shop where i got some muriatic acid and I stopped by the store to get some jars and a glass baster (last things i needed for extraction) and when i get back in the car i start driving back to the interstate and i start coughing from this WEIRD aroma and the inside of the car is smoking. I pull over cutting off a bunch of people, and as kind as people are when your in danger I got the finger and horns numerous times heaven forbid I slow them down for 15 seconds lol so i pull over and the bottle i got tipped over and leaked. 3/4 of the bottle soaked into the carpet of my car and totally destroyed it. ate away at the carpet, floormats smoked for like 15 minutes, ugh. i put a bunch of snow on it to neutralize the smoke then got some air spray to neutralize the odor but the carpet has been completely eaten and is still a rotten smell.. So kids, dont handle chemicals irresponsibly like I did... Its not a good thing. Be Safe and happy tripping
Muriatic Acid was recommended in the QT Tek (A/B) - That one is old and pretty much crap, there are much improved A/B teks available these days. just saying..
Theres still nothing wrong with muriatic acid. Its 33% HCl. QTs TEK is actually pretty decent. Not a whole lot of improvements have really been made, except finding better recrystallization solvents.
wow man sorry about your car. Its a good thing it fell there and not on you tho. That woulda been one nasty burn and car accident. How did the lid get open? Be safe man.
I dont know, it hadnt even been opened yet, but its one of the "click click" lids with no seal from the factory so im thinking if it fell over and hit the cap it clicked off the rack and opened. Spilled and totally ate the inside of my car lol im glad i can laugh about it but omg it smells horrible
I work at a pool store and bottles of Muriatic acid have vented caps so they don't burst. So, if you have them at an angle somewhere in your car and are jarring around: it will probably leak. Put em in a box next time. You could potentially yell at the store you bought it from because they did not warn you, I know I am supposed to do it when customers pick up bottles, maybe get your money back or a free bottle or two
