Check as many as you believe:
If you only believe in 1 and not the others, then explain why.

Part of the problem is that "murder" is unlawful killing. The legality of most of these is not in question. Your use of the word "murder" suggests that this is a springboard for you to advocate your position about some of the choices.

Let me take them one at a time:

    War - I'm against it.

Death Penalty - I'm against it. Death by incarceration (a.k.a. life imprinsonment) protects society while allowing for judicial errors to be corrected.

Abortion is not killing. It is a woman controling her own body.

Assisted Suicide - If a person is in so much pain (physical or psychic) that they prefer death, their caretaker should be permited to aid them in relieving that pain. I want to be clear that the death decision lies with the person who would die.

Other: Killing in self defence or defence of another should be avoided, but if that is what is needed, I'm not going to object. I would investigate whether killing was needed and whether effective alternatives were considered.

Let me add that it would be easy to take each of these positions to a logical absurdity. I don't believe that people should let logic force them to act foolishly.

you do realize you're automatically imposing your beliefs in this poll?

because although i would try my best to avoid this option, i strongly don't believe abortion is murder. how can you kill something that has not even been born yet?

right to die/assisted suicide- are you refering to euthanasia? that again is not murder in my opinion so long as the patient has given their consent. i know that if i found out i had cancer or some slowly terminal disease i would probably see everyone for one last time and then leave this place before i started suffering badly. i wouldn't want to try all kinds of new medication we don't even know about.

I tried to change it to "ending or stopping life" but I don't know how to change the title

As the others have pointed out this is a very poorly worded question, Squawkers7 please clarify. Mike e stated it correctly, murder is defined as "the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought". Source: Random House College Dictionary.

Abortion is the termination of an unwanted pregnancy. It is a woman who is in control of her body.

War is sometimes necessary. As much as I am opposed to violence, WWII was necessary.

I do support the death penalty under some conditions. In Louisiana the rape of a child under the age of 13 is a death penalty offense. Capital murder is also punishable by death. I do support the death penalty under those circumstances.

Assisted sucide should be legal in my humble opinion.

Killing in self defense is not murder. This is the ultimate situational problem. It is your life or mine. That is a very difficult position to be in. Our right to self preservation is an inborn characteristic.

The only justified reasons for killing someone, in my opinion, are revenge and/or self defense.

War is not acceptable to me, because you are killing people because the leader of your country feels that you need to. This is wrong. If you kill someone, it should be because you feel it is necessary, not because someone tells you it's justified and has to be done.

Abortion is just fucked up and should be illegal. It is basically the murder of a child. The woman should carry the baby to term and give it up for adoption if she doesn't want it or doesn't feel she can take care of it. Either that, or have their tubes tied before they get pregnant.

The death penalty is acceptable to a certain extent. The only thing I would change about it is that the family of the victim(s) should be the only ones allowed to kill the person that has been sentenced to death. The case doesn't really involve the state or the country, so they should stay out of it.

Assisted suicide, I would say, is justified. If a person wants to die, they want to die. They are gonna kill themselves anyway. They may as well be able to dot he assisted suicide thing and go out as painlessly as possible. Once again, it doesn't concern the state of the country, so they should have no say as to whether or not it's right.

YES. In a way it’s a bit like asking someone "when did you stop beating your wife?” It is not only a question, it is also an accusation. Any way you answer it, guilt is automatically assumed. In this case, abortion, war, the death penalty, assisted suicide, etc.. Are all automatically assumed to be murder.

murder n. the killing of a human being by a sane person, with intent, malice aforethought (prior intention to kill the particular victim or anyone who gets in the way), and with no legal excuse or authority. In those clear circumstances, this is first degree murder. By statute many states make killings in which there is torture, movement of the person (kidnapping) before the killing, as an incident to another crime (as during a hold-up or rape), and the death of a police officer or prison guard all first degree murders with or without premeditation, and with malice presumed. Second degree murder is such a killing without premeditation, as in the heat of passion or in a sudden quarrel or fight. Malice in second degree murder may be implied from a death due to the reckless lack of concern for the life others (such as firing a gun into a crowd, or bashing someone with any deadly weapon). Depending on the circumstances and state laws, murder in the first or second degree may be chargeable to a person who did not actually kill, but was involved in a crime with a partner who actually did the killing or someone died as the result of the crime. (Example: In a liquor store stick-up in which the clerk shoots back at the hold-up man and kills a bystander, the armed robber can be convicted of at least second degree murder. To be murder the victim must die within a year of the attack. Death of an unborn child who is "quick" (fetus is moving) can be murder, provided there was premeditation, malice, and no legal authority.
(still not sure of the difference)
Thus, abortion is not murder under the law.(abortion is premeditated~especially late-term ones) (Example: Jack Violent shoots his pregnant girlfriend, killing the fetus).

Squawkers, you stopped short in your underlining: NO LEGAL AUTHORITY.
As the privacy issue of Roe v. Wade clarifies, the state had no authority in that decision.
That gives legal authority to the woman. Period.
Our (US) government is based on the tenth amendment: powers not specifically trusted to the federal government belong to the states and people.
Heck, the Bill of rights is about specifically disallowing the state and Fed certain rights.

to some people, taking an animal's like equates to and becomes murder, although farm animals have no legal protection (domestic farm animals are considered possessions under the law, especially for the purposes of transportation). To equate abortion with murder is as equally innane LEGALISTICALLY. You can personally be against using it as an option, but that is where your rights end. I have my rights, too.

no group is agitating that all fundies get abortions, or forcing it on inmates, but the fundies seem to want to impose their decisions on everyone, from abortion to death with dignity.
No one wants all terminally ill/ catastrophically ill people to off themselves, but people want the right to die with some dignity.
My god, we do it for babyrapers and killers, why not you, or me, or your grandma?
lethal injection is handled with as much dignity as possible in a power imbalance.
( i am conflicted with the death penalty- I cannot condone the taking of life in my name)
Why CAN'T I have enough heroin to take me out on a pink candy floss cloud? Why is it ethical to make a human suffer when there are options?
sure I want my organs harvested if at all possible (machines to keep organs oxygenated is allowed in my living will) but I think if I was in so much pain that I needed out, that would become secondary.
Would helping my transformation to spirit make my sweetie a killer? in most states, yes. I'm going to die anyway. Why be the Oklahoma prison doc who rescussitated a heart attack victim at 2 pm one monday only to sign the death certificate after his Thursday morning execution?
    THAT is sick.

I only checked the assisted suicide, because I feel it is wrong to take anybody elses life but your own....even if somebody is charged for murder they shouldnt be put to death, a long time in jail will do that person just as worse as a shortend life. Abortion, well pro choice actually, I feel the women should have the choice but I feel abortion itself is wrong. And war.....yah F war

Well, using this definition (minus the bit about 'legal excuse or authority'), I think

ABORTION: Not murder. An undeveloped foetus does not constitute a human being. Therefore, intent, malice and aforethought are irrelevant. If an abortion takes place against a woman’s will, it is an act of grievous bodily harm against the woman.

WAR: Difficult to say. It is definitely a case of state-sponsored murder. In terms of the soldiers, some who kill are murderers, some are not.

DEATH PENALTY: A clear case of state-sponsored murder; intent, malice and aforethought are all present at the legislative level, and sometimes at the level of the judiciary.

ASSISTED SUICIDE: Not murder. I think the important word here is 'assisted'. It is not murder if an individual assists someone to die; provided the death blow is self-delivered. If you kill someone who is in pain because they ask you to, it is still murder -they need to kill themselves for it to be suicide.

Anyway, please no hate mail. If you disagree with me, simply say so in the forums.

None of the poll options are murder by definition or my Beliefs.

'Other' should include self defense in addition to other unusual situations.

None are murder in my book.

War: I hate it but sometimes it's the only option.

Abortion: A woman's uterus is her own business. Is it murder if she has a tapeworm removed?

Execution: People who molest/rape babies and children should be flayed alive then boiled in oil...IMHO. People who go into a store, shoot the clerk in the head, and rob it...deserve to be executed...ect. I believe that the moment you viciously and premeditatedly take the life of another born human..you forfeit your right to exist.

Assisted Suicide: Dying is a deeply personal and private act that the government should have zero say regarding. If someone wants to die with the aid of a doctor and his pleasant drugs then he/she should be allowed that option.

Firstly is 'abortion' murder?.I don't want to get into the ethics of that emotionally-charged debate but the author of the poll is intimating that abortion may be a form of murder which many do not believe is the case.
How about the meat industry? billions of cows ,chickens, lambs, fish etc.are slaughtered throughout the world every year.Is the pre-meditated killing of an animal 'murder' & why wasn't that in the poll for those who feel it is?.
You can't fight or win a war unless you are prepared to murder. Not being prepared to murder in war conditions is surrender to those who undoubtedly will.
Assisted-suicide(euthanasia) & the death-penalty(state-murder) are forms of murder that I vehemently oppose.

Everything except for abortion, that's just plain wrong.

    My other explaination:

Much like the death penalty, except rape is not punishable by the death penalty, and crazy individuals who go on killing or raping sprees don't get shot, as they should.

Does it really matter, people will keep killing for dumb reasons and their isn’t much anybody can do to stop them, it’s sad when you really think about it…

Murder is right when it can be rightfully justified.

Cereal Killers are just phycos who need to be tracked down and eliminated from society.
