Two weeks ago a girl was found dead in a car about five blocks from where I live. The police didn't say a thing about it. Released no information other than that they are investigating the crime.

Tonight they have taken the killer into custody. He was a convicted sex offender and in Vermont they keep sex offenders dna on file and his matched that of dna samples taken from the crime scene. He apparently propositioned her in a bar dowtown, they left in her car and pulled over into this parking lot where he beat her, raped her and stabbed her to death. I heard about it on the radio that the police said the actual murder occured on my street and then he dumped her and the car five blocks away from where I live.

When I got home from work the TV crews where two houses over next to this mental rehabilitiation clinic. I asked them if this is where it happened and they pointed to a truck parked where it occured. I can see the truck from my bedroom window!!

Very freaky shit. First random murder in my town in nearly ten years. You absolutely never hear about murders in Vermont, the rare times they occur it is usually a crime of passion. I can't get over that not only was it behind my house, but the fact that he did it literally 100 feet off of one of the busiest streets in town.

Word to the wise to people - next time you consider having a one night stand with a stranger, you never know what that persons history could be and what they might be capable of.

The really scary thing is that if it was summertime and I had my windows open, I probably would have heard it.

You look at this case and then the case of the little girl in Florida and it makes you think, are the authorities doing enough to either rehabilitate or monitor the lives of convicted sex offenders. Many sex offenders are actually forced to leave the state of Vermont if they are repeat offenders. They just shipped one guy down to live in Kentucky this past fall

I don't feel any less safe because of it. Like I said, this kind of thing happens about once every ten years in my city.

Just ship it to another State.

Outstanding Logic......what goes round, comes round...

    it is rather weird logic.

The reason they do it is to get the offender away from the victim. Vermont is a very small place and its easy to run into people here. They wanted the victims to have piece of mind that their attacker is no longer in the community that they live.

    Agreed - weird.

Here, we have a continual battle as to where (cities/rural) halfway houses/release points are.

Houston gets more than its fair share regardless of prospective.
It makes for some interesting new 'residents'...

no of course not but theivery isn't a crime of violence rape is. I'm sorry I don't think people can be rehibilitated, they'll always have that urge. It's cruel to potential victims and the sex offender themselves to let them keep that temptation-why so another woman or kid can be raped and/or murdered and they can rot in jail?

wow, its always horribly reality striking when something like this happens...one of the sniper attacks happened 3 blocks from where i was getting gas that same day and near the same time. makes you just want to hold those you love closer to you and to want to love those around you, envelop your compassion and cherish every single moment...god bless her family and everyone else in this world who is suffering due to the anger of another.

    I agree with you Linsey.
Convicted sex offenders should be castrated, or at the very least never allowed back into the public.
Once a sex offender always a sex offender, they are bound to repeat.

    I never once said that.
You cannot treat being a pedophile. If you are attracted to children you are attracted to children, much like you can't treat someone for being gay.
I'm curious to know if you are close to anyone who has been hurt by a sex offender.
My mother was molested by her grandfather, he also had molested my grandmother when she was a child, his very own daughter, and several other of his grand daughters...do you think someone like that should be allowed back into public?
I'd love nothing more for someone like that to suffer a horrible and painful death, but I know that the death penalty is no more then civilized and legal murder.
Being a sex offender is a sickness, an uncurable disease.
