So, I'm thinking about getting another tongue piercing. I wanted to know if anyone here has experience with that or knows someone with more than one tongue piercing. I've had no problems with my first one, but I'm worried about what a second (or third) with do to my teeth or my speech. Also, my tongue is REALLY short.

Seriously, that's as far out as it goes. (Although, my piercer says the whole "my tongue's too short" thing is a bullshit excuse and he can pierce anything.) This is what i want (except probably only three, not four.)

Is this a good idea? Or am I gonna talk like a retard and knock all my teeth out?

i also have a very short and tiny tounge. i remember when it was first healing up and i was trying to employ some friends of mine to help me change it out to a shorter bar and they kept saying "stick your tounge out farther!" and i was like "I can't, thats as far as it goes."

anyway, you might be able to get one more in there but you only have so much room to go before you get to that part (dont know the formal term) that holds your tounge in place. a good piercer will be able to give you a good opinion, but be choosey with who you go to. the first guy that did my tounge fucked it up and i had to find someone to fix it. the tounge is a sensitive area.....

Well, I trust my piercer's opinion. He did an awesome job on all my other piercings, and he's got tons of experience, and he's done some really intense, crazy complicated piercings. If he says I can fit another one, I'm not gonna argue. What I'm worried about is if my mouth gets too crowded and I start lisping badly, or if my dentist tries to assasinate me (I heard him bitching about tongue piercings before I got mine. He hasn't seen mine yet. >_<) That would suck. I can always take it out, but what a waste....

to be as respectful as possible, your piercer is lying. the tongue being to short thing is TRUTH. while any idiot can pierce a tongue no matter the length, the issue is should it be done or not. lisping is not what you need to worry about, its gum recession and chipping teeth. gum recession is very common especially when peircers pierce to close to the tip. i would only get it done if he can fit it behind the one you have now or you will risk recession or chipping. i have my tongue pierced twice, but going in the different direction (one on each hemisphere of the tongue), and i love them. while your piercer definitely can pierce it again, but keep in mind... should he? i would trust your dentist over your piecer. if your dentist says that your gums are starting to recede, dont risk keeping the piercing. gum recession doesnt heal. but (!), if there is room to fit it behind the one you have now, i highly recomend this mod. its awesome.

Thats what I was thinking. I didn't want to go closer to the tip because i figured there would be problems. But I would do one more behind the one I have. Are there problems associated with piercing too far back?

as long as your tongue web is not in the way and proper length is used, then no. the tongue gets thicker as it goes back, so longer jewelry may need to be used. shoot, when i got my venoms i started with 7/8" barbells. if you could get a decent close shot of the bottom of your tongue i would be more than happy to tell you if i think you have enough room or not.

that is why i took my tounge ring out .......i could feel my gums behind my bottom front teeth begining to recede and i freaked out. if i'm not mistaken, gums do not grow back or fix themselves (one person told me that they infact DO but who knows)

I think to fix gum recession you have to get skin graphed on there. I had a friend who had abnormally short gums, and I'm not sure of the details but I think they took skin from the roof of his mouth (don't take my word for that.) Anyway, I can't get a picture of the bottom of my tongue, because that's how tight my tongue web is. When I was a little kid my dentist actually wanted to cut it because it was causing speech problems. I learned to speak properly despite my tight tongue web, so my parents never had it cut. Is it too late to do that?

definitely not. web removal is a pretty common body modification. i dont know any mod artists in florida, at least any that do that sort of thing. but i have watched plenty of web removals, and they really do work wonders. ask your dentist about it. if you cant even lift up your tongue, i'm almost positive you cant pierce again.

ps, keep me posted about your web removal if you decide to go for it. i could probably sniff out a good mod artist in FL if you wanted me to.

*Sigh* I can't imagine what my dentist would say. (He's really conservative. He HATES tongue piercing, even piercings in general.) I don't know how to approach him about it. The only thing I can say that he might agree with is that my web has caused problems in the past other than cosmetic ones.

Its interesting though, I had the same problem with the web in between my upper gum and inside upper lip (right above my front two teeth) That was causing problems that my parents also just sort of ignored. And, I have TMJ (where your jaw muscles are so tight that it causes your jaw to periodically pop out of place). I'm no doctor, but I think it would be reasonable to say that my whole mouth is just wired too tight. Maybe that gives me a case for a web removal other than "I want to put more holes in my tongue." I don't know if he'll go for that tho.

It's not like he can stop me if I go to a body mod artist, but it would be nice to have his approval. Or even better, if he agrees to write me a referral to an oral surgeon. I think there are more problems to be fixed than just my web, and I want to talk to him about all of this, but I know he's gonna be really hung up on the tongue piercing.

then i think you should take your tongue piercing out a few weeks before you go to him. then just explain its giving you problems. if he gives you a referral, then thats awesome. cause insurance will cover it probably. if he is a cock, then you can repost here, or PM me. and i'll do my best to find a good mod artist in FL. or, you can try going to a new dentist.

I have a friend who recently got his tounge pierced across....that is from right to left through the whole thing. He also has 2 going down through the center of his tounge. He couldnt talk properly for about a month and had trouble with solid food for a while. Hes gotten over it and it looks amazing. He told me the 2 vertical piercings didnt hurt but the other one was quite painfull.

I have three holes in my tongue and at first i talked like an idiot of course but after the swelling i talked perfectly. you dont have to get all your piercings in a row you could make a design of some sort EX: a triangle, heart, smiley face etc.

I also have a friend that has two tongue piercings. I don't really know much about the length of her tongue, but they look great. She actually did them both herself  .

As stated above, I would get it checked out by your dentist, and move on from there.
