The prodigy Mozart? The moody Beethoven? The red priest Vivaldi?

Who is the the greatest of these three classical music heavy weights.

You shouldn't even have to ask! Mozart every time. Ah, those clarinet concertos...

Mozart, hands down. nothing to do with being a prodigy. it is his deep understanding of humanity that shines through, even in his crappy compositions.

but then again... the summer movement from the four seasons...

    Adelaïde...

why did you leave out Schubert?

    Mozart definitely.

But I'm surprised slightly by the inclusion of Vivaldi - most people might think the contest was between Mozart, Beethoven and J.S.Bach.

Not that I'm putting down Vivaldi, whose music I love, but he really isn't as significant a figure as Bach, who is really the father of all subsequent music.

people say that, but it really isn't true. J.S. Bach was rediscovered later on. CPE Bach was more influential. There is no unbroken line from JS Bach onwards. He did not die famous.

CPE's music though could never have been without the work of his pop.
Personally, I think CPE's music is interesting, but not a patch on JS.

I picked these three because they were all composing in different times...not necessarily eras.

Vivaldi is the right choice to represent the rennaissance.

My answer is a very definite ... "it depends" .. lol

I love Beethoven's power, but I also love Mozart's direct connection to the human heart. I like Vivaldi too, but not as much I guess.

Beethoven's music always seems like "city music" to me, in the same kinda way that jazz is. And I prefer listening to Beethoven symphonies on weekends as opposed to weekdays ... I have no idea why.

I have also noticed that I prefer Mozart around the time I'm ovulating. I have no explanation for that, but it might be an interesting study to ask women what kinds of music they prefer at different times of the month.

Mozart truly uses art to conceal art. His work sounds so "easy" and "simple" but yet, it's so complex and boastful.

Mozart is the greatest composer of all. Beethoven created his music, but the music of Mozart is of such purity and beauty that one feels he merely found it-that it has always existed as part of the inner beauty of the universe waiting to be revealed.

Why do hot dog buns come in packs of six and hot dogs themselves in packs of 8?

Yes Bach was popular and is widely known to the casual fan of classical music. But if you had the tenacity to read the thread you would have your answer to this impatient question.
