I was thinking of going to school in Scotland, but I hear that they really despise Americans there and that somewhat worries me since I am American, is that really true?
aye pal, cannae stand a yank accent, grinds the teeth if ye ken fit a mean. tone doon yer accent and ye jus might make it through eh =]
It's not really "up" anywhere, that's just what people say lol. You can be in Edinburgh and still say you're going "up" to London...
By "up there" I do believe young Ian was talking about Scotland. From the perspective of someone living in England
Probably easier said than done my dear Hamish. By the way, reading your comments reminds me of reading Trainspotting. The thick Scottish accent comes through very well. :cheers2:
scotland is basically like a slightly more left wing england. in terms of anti-americanism, you won't get beyond a few passing jokes about the stereotypical american. you'd probably feel more at home in edinburgh as opposed to inverness or some highland purgatory though...
Cool, glad to get the "up there" thing figured out. I think it was the signing of his name after the post that added to the confusion. I thought maybe he was calling me Ian. I guess it's my dumb American side coming out!
I felt a lot more accepted in Scotland than I did in England, and it's rare for anybody to like AustralIANs. They also seem to have a love affair for Canadians. I couldn't ever get a Scotsman's attention if a Canuck was in the room, so just tell them you're from 'up there' and you'll be fine. They are much nicer than Englishmen in any case.
If it's anything like London, they will have some sort of attraction to anyone with a north American accent. Mainly because we never see any Americans.
naw hate yanks pal, tis in the blood. as much as we hate the english. cannae get past that but aye, canadians are just fine
General eyes? I love Aussies...well I did until now Hamish I'm hurt man...just because we wear trousers
