dont know why my original post was deleted....does the op or mod have a problem with me?or was it ''alices restaraunt''
Weird as it seems: Kelly's Heroes: War flick with I think Telly Savalas, Clint Eastwood and Donald Sutherland playing a Hippy Tank Commander. Fandango with Judd Nelson and Kevin Costner. Usually when you see Hippies and Stoners in movies that aren't Hippy or Stoner flicks they are there as stereotypes and carachatures for comic relief. It's almost like black face or Amos and Andy except it is socially exceptable. Peace Out, Rev J
But on a different note: Steal This Movie The Chicago 10 Medium Cool It's weird I just pulled 3 out of the air that had connections to riots at the '68 Democratic National Convention. Peace Out, Rev J
Check out that newer movie with Demetri Martin, Taking Woodstock. I was skeptical at first but it was really really good.
I was just going to say that. I had kind of a creepy experience when I saw that in the theater. I entered a contest via text message (BTW I hate texting). I won 2 free tickets to see Taking Woodstock. Just before they start showing the previews I get a text message about the movie Sorority Row and the first preview they show is for Sorority Row. I'm pretty sure that since I entered the contest I opened up my phone info (i.e GPS) so the knew to text me in the theater. I know it sounds a little paranoid but..... Peace Out, Rev J
I was juast talking to my fiancee and she mentioned Billy Jack. It was kind of a hippie action movie also noteable for being the first appearance of Howard Hessman (ie Doctor Johnny Fever from WKRP in Cincinati) appearing under the name Howard Johnson. Peace Out, Rev J
The movie The Wackness, while not about hippies, has a cool hippy character and even drops a Phish reference
Dude I forgot Flashback with Dennis Hopper. And the hippie kid in Harold and Kumar go to white castle was fucking funny. Peace Out, Rev J
Maybe not a hippie exactly, but Brad Pitt has this hilariously small stoner roll in True Romance. Its great and so unlike any other roll he's done.
I saw an interview with the Coen Brothers where they said they thought that Brad Pitt's charachter from True Romance should have his own movie. So they wrote "The Big Lebowski. Peace Out, Rev J
While I thought Brad Pitt's charachter in True Romance was funny it was also the perfect example of what I was complaining about before. The Steriotypical stoner that never gets off the couch and never accomplishes anything but is there for comic relief. But the twist to it was that he remembered all of the conversations that were had in front of him in detail. Peace Out, Rev J
"skidoo" from the late 60's.i don't remember much about it although it had a good cast includeing jackie gleason and groucho marx....from the early 70's there was "electra glide in blue" with robert blake as a motorcycle patrolman....frank zappa's film "200 motels"...and it was always interesting and funny how hippies were portrayed on the old dragnet show...also i noticed "medium cool" mentioned above.this is one of my favorites.well acted and filmed.the story takes place in chicago during the 1968 democratic convention but the story is as relavant now as it was when it was made about 40 years ago.
yeah, I guess you have a point about that. Thank goodness The Big Lebowski wasn't quite as bad as all that. I guess stereotypes can't be helped, though. They exist for a reason. I know a guy just like brad's small character. lol
I also liked Brad Pitt's charachter. An interesting bit of trivia the speach that Dennis Hopper gives about Sicilians is completely improvised. It was supposed to be both him and Christopher Walken improvising off eachother but after Hopper unleashed that Walken was so stunned he couldn't think of anything to say so he went back to the script and said "Shoot him". Peace Out, Rev J
I love good improv. That is a fantastic scene. I guess you could say the movie Blue State had hippies in it, if you wanted to use the term to loosely mean a group of Canadians that live in a house and have a sort of orgy while helping out some wayward Americans. As far as Romantic comedies go, it was a decent movie. I'd watch it again.
