Good or bad? I have one that is really friggin flakey. she moved from Miami to where I live in PA "just to help babysit". When I give her exact dates, the nimrod marks it down in a calender and STILL gets it wrong. She will be watching my daughter, or at least I thought, next wednesday and thursday (the 4th and 5th). This morning I got an e-mail from her....."I cant wait to see the little one tomorrow" I WATCHED HER CIRCLE THE DATES IN HER DATEBOOK, today is August 29th. This is the 3rd time the woman had screwed us. Im ready to commit bloody murder. Or ask my husband to put her in a home b/c this is ridiculous. And lets not even get into her being over-bearing and a flat out space cadet. Wondering if she should even be watching my kid........
sooo, mother in laws.....yay or nay?

My x in laws refused any interaction with their grandchildren with the exception of Mom and Dad's day. Consider yourself blessed to have willing volunteers.

oh believe me, I did feel blessed, until she came along screwing up dates for babysitting, giving me and my husband nothing but grief and acting like she had the IQ of a leaf. Her moving here has caused nothing but aggravation. I wish a giant crater would fall from the sky and fall right into this cubicle right now...:bomb:

Ah, I love my mother-in-law, but we don't have children. I'm sure it would still be pretty cool if we did because watching her go ga-ga over my niece (sister-in-law's baby), I know she'd be so stoked to be a grandma again. I'm sure she'd constantly be at our house or constantly nagging us to come over since her only grandbaby at the moment lives about 6 hours away and she sees her once every couple of months.

But yeah, my mother-in-law helped way more with our wedding than my parents did (and boy is my mom all sorts of butthurt that MIL gets more credit than her). She completely put together the dinner herself and spent the time after the ceremony cooking for 70 people. She also surprised me a couple of weeks before the wedding with a huge box of decorations we could use. I've been with her son for 8 years, so I think if there were going to be any big problems with her, I would've run into them years ago. :)

Ive been with her son off and on since the 90's so you would think things would be ok. She e-mailed me and said....am I getting senile? Let me quote Dorothy Sbornak from the Golden Girls....Shady Pines, here we come!

Haha! I have to admit, sometimes eating out with MIL is kind of embarrassing. Her biggest pet peeve is wait staff that won't let you get seated before they start asking about drinks. I don't know why on earth that's a big deal, she always always always gets a Coke and the rest of us always get the same drink when we go out, but she feels like she's being rushed and she snaps at the waiter or waitress lol. She tries to be nice to them the rest of the time but just always starts it off on a bad foot. She also isn't shy about letting them know if something isn't up to her standards and if a waitress comes off as rude, well she gets that back tenfold. Haha, it can be soooo awkward. Even worse, she's rubbed off on her son and he's got a much more abrasive and caustic personality, so while it's not a regular thing and he's pretty understanding, there have been times I've had to go out and hide in the car while he tells off both the waitress and the manager on shift. Haha

My mother in law is really, really nice and she does sooo much to help us. She saves us at least $400 a month by watching her grandson while we work.

So I hate talking bad about her, but to be honest she really annoys the shit out of me lol

She's not very smart and she has different values as far as raising kids. Its going to be a battle when he's a little older to keep her from giving him fast food every day. She's trying to talk us into having his one year old birthday party at Mcdonalds, when as far as I'm concerned he will never eat fast food. She starts him on things he's not ready for without even asking us. She started giving him juice even though I didn't want him to have any until he was at least a year old, and then only watered down. She doesn't seem to give a shit if he takes his naps or not so he's always wired by the time we get him at the end of the day. I'm actually probably going to put him in a daycare in a couple of months because at least the daycare will do exactly what we instruct them to do and it won't be a constant battle.

But I feel ungrateful because you really can't beat free childcare. Plus she's always been extremely kind to me. She and I just operate on two completely different wavelengths.

    Seriously... I could.
But I have a horrible headache right now and I don't need it getting any worse.
Let's just say.....hdglasdfjlasjdfljasdflkjalkdfl!!!! <--- my mother in law. that is me yelling.
no, I love the lady. I really do. She likes to give us lots of money. she really does. lol.
but she expects to make decisions based on her money.
it's like she thinks we are the government and she can buy us.

It is WONDERFUL, knowing I am not the only one with a mother in law that makes a person's jaw clench. She is having dinner Saturday for all of us and she e-mailed me saying....ok, cant wait to see you Sunday.......sigh.

"well, in that case, maybe she should come sat., not sun., when i'm in a good mood" lol :D

That made me laugh so hard. My mother in law seems to be mentally vacant as well. But it's not because she's old, she's an alcoholic and she's not quite all there anymore. My fiance and I lived with her for a while and it was just utter hell. She's never been all too happy that her son loves anyone more than her. And I don't really know what she expects, because she's never been there for him. Always drunk, lazy, gluttonous, and just overall not intelligent.

I think she means well...sometimes. She's just very annoying. She's in rehab right now and she's never going to live with us again. Ever. I could honestly be pretty happy if we didn't see her anymore at all. I wouldn't even trust her watching my kids (when we have them). She claims she loves to cook and do all these things but she's too lazy. She has horrible eating habits, is dirty (doesn't even brush her teeth). I don't want her around any family my fiance and I create. I feel bad for her because some terrible things have happened to her, but she uses everything as an excuse to drink or try to get pity from people. And she's one of those people who will worm their way into staying with you for a day and just never leaving. And she wouldn't pitch in around the house either. Used to be hell cleaning up after her constantly too. Now I can keep my house clean and not be annoyed by a self righteous bitch all day.

I guess that's pretty harsh...but she put us through hell. Called me a whore and a piece of shit and a bitch. And while sober, when her son proposed to me all she could say was "Are you serious?" His grandmother to me, is my real mother-in-law. She's a stubborn old Cuban lady but she's a great lady too. I love her like she's my family. And she's always been there for my man and I. I'll never feel this way about his mom. I honestly don't even want her at my wedding. She'd be blubbering because she's surprised that her son managed to grow up and be a decent person all without her help. And then she'll pretend to be happy for us and make me just want to leave our own wedding as soon as possible. Sigh. I could go on forever.

wow girls, sounds like you all have worse stories than me, well Aeri didnt have to deal with MIL. maybe I should just be happy she likes to watch my kid for free! still, she annoys the shit outta me. Sometimes I am telling her important things like.....make sure she drinks her milk, make sure she takes her vitamin etc, as Im saying this, she is looking past me at a bird hopping around the yard going....aw, so cute....it's just things like that. she lived in Miami Beach for 13 years, JUST moved back to PA to be with us and we are all getting tons of grey hairs........

lol Appreciate that all her problem seems to be is absent-mindedness. And lucky for American Terrorist, you at least get some cash out of yours! lol

The only time we ever got money from my mother in law is when she'd drunkenly throw money at us and tell us to go get fast food or whatever. She wouldn't remember because she'd pass out a minute later and we'd just take the money and go out. Sometimes those outings were the only thing keeping me from going insane, because I couldn't stand spending all day sitting there with a drunken lady talking and harassing me.
