If we're talking American League, the most disappointing team has to be the Boston Red Sox. I think trading three of their top players - Beckett, Gonzalez, and Crawford - was the nail in the coffin. Who would have thought they'd play this terribly under Bobby V.?

In the National League, I think few would dispute that my hometown Miami Marlins have been the biggest disappointment. I've followed them since the organization's inception in 1993 and needless to say this season has been a tough one to stomach. I've been so disappointed in this team that it inspired me to write an article on their woeful 2012 campaign: Miami Marlins Plagued by Lackluster Offense, Shoddy Pitching and Injuries in a Dismal 2012 Season

I think the pieces just didn't fit well together, so I don't blame them for trading Hanley Ramirez. But throwing money at the biggest free agents they could find was obviously not a smart move.

    What are your thoughts?

i think the nail was in the coffin already and that is why they dumped as much payroll as they could without throwing the towel in on next season
saying it like that implies that Bobby V is a good manager, he never won a championship and has never done anything that impressed me. in fact i remember a game when he was managing the rangers when nolan ryan was pitching and he got into trouble with 2 out and a couple on base. Bobby V started walking to the mound and ryan chased him away. Bobby stopped then started again to the mound and ryan yelled at him and told him to go back to the dugout. Bobby V went back to the dugout and ryan through all strikes to get the last out and end the inning. the point of that story...ryan knew more than Bobby V in that situation.

i dont follow the NL as much being a tigers fan but i would say that the nats were more of a surprise than the marlins were. but since this was about disappointing teams i guess i will agree although none of the teams i thought would do good are doing bad and quite a few of the teams i thought would do bad are doing good. the pirates should get their first winning season since leyland managed there. the dodgers are turning their luck around (or buying new luck) and i already mentioned the nats. the team i would think would be better, although i dont think they would have won the division is the rockies

I thought Crawford was a bad signing for Boston to begin with. I think he'll be better in the National league once healthy. They seem to steal more bases and play small ball. Valentine seems to be out of his league.

I personally am a fan of Ozzie. I'm a Detroit Tigers fan, but I always thought he got the most out of his players in Chicago, and was a great interview. I don't agree with everything he says, but he seems to come from the heart. I thought he'd do well in Miami, but once they went after Reyes to play ss when you already had Ramirez without telling him first, That should have raised a red flag as to how the front office is running the team. They still have some good, young talent that may pay off, so it's a wait and see thing.

Finally, I think my Tigers should be considered for that dubious honor as well. There is wayy too much talent there to not have the best or second best record in MLB.

Ventura seems to be doing a good job of getting the most out of his players also.

as for the thread being spam. i never click on those links that are part of the post so if they are spam they are lost on me.

Oh yeah, Ventura is doing a great job. Too good off a job for my tastes. I wanted to slip Nolan Ryan a few grand to go put some knots on his forehead prior to the last Detroit-Chicago series, but he wouldn't return my calls.

edit: i had to go back and watch it again, and the clip that i found was trying to say that ventura won the fight. funniest shit and craziest logic i ever saw.

after ryan punches robin in the face several times the whole sox team takes down ryan and this dude acts like robin who was half of ryans age at the time did it all on his own. if it wasnt for robins teamates ryan would still be there to this day on the mound pounding robin in the face while holding him in that headlock

I always get a laugh out of that clip. Definitely a baseball classic moment.

Many are saying the Marlins should go after Hamilton and Wright in the offseason. I seriously doubt Miami will land those two coveted agents.

Well, my Phillies sure did suck this year!

For a team with the 2nd highest payroll in baseball the start of the year, and finish at .500 after 5 consecutive years of post-season appearances, really bites the big one :-(

Texas Rangers had a disappointing final month, I'm an Oakland A's fan though so I enjoyed it.

I was hoping for another Bay Series... Without earthquakes, of course, but with an orange victory.

its hard to say a team that was 1 win away from the world series had a disappointing season but to lose 3 in a row to end their world series hopes the cardinals had the most disappointing playoffs (arguably of course against the yankees and to a lesser extent the rangers) the funny thing is that the cardinals have been doing crap like that to other teams for the last decade, its nice that they finally got a taste of their own medicine.
