I'm hoping this is the correct location for this. If not, you may bury me up to my neck in scorpion carcasses and then stone me to death with avocados. So yeah. What do all you guys think of this Moses and the ten commandments thing? (Oh, if you don't know, check it out http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23468364/) It seems a lot more plausible to me than I first though.
I sort of agree with the second poster here who stated that "moses is/was not real". I find it interesting that people assume that Biblical figures existed with no direct evidence...and then claim to have some special revelation about what they were actually like. I think it is more likely that Moses didn't really exist, and (albeit very less likely) that inspired authors and redactors also used his story to reveal Truths about God. Also, if the event went down as recorded only under the influence, how did all the Israelites have the same hallucination?
Yeah, I find the possible influence of the acacia tree(DMT) on the bible very interesting. In Egypt it was considered the tree of life and was associated with the god Amen. The tree also produces a gum that people can live on that fits perfectly with the description of manna in the Bible. It is also what the ark of the covenent was made out of so it obviously was sacred to the Jews.
I didn't know any of that stuff. I haven't really done as much bible research and reading as I should. Does it mention the acacia directly, or is it more hinted at?
Directly. It mentions it when it talks about building the tabernacle(Exodus 25:10) and also when it describes how to make incense. The bark and leaves contain DMT.
Some would say that DMT produces a real perception of reality and is not a hallucination. So if they were all getting 'high' (it really isn't that kind of drug) from DMT, then maybe they are contacting the same world and being/s each time it was used, regardless of who used it and when. Some see DMT as a portal to the spirit realm left behind by God or gods. A very good documentary on the subject: Other Worlds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfUFLibqX7A I find it very interesting that those that undergo the affects of DMT say that reptiles are seen throughout the trip as well as many other beings. It's interesting how snakes are so deeply rooted into our psyche... Those that undergo the effect describe that reality is being completely replaced with another. It's like pulling away the blanket to reveal another world with completely different physics. It's unique from any other psychedelic because of this. With LSD, it's usually just distortions of the physics that we see everyday, but with DMT it's a complete replacement. If DMT turns out to be a real perception and not just hallucination then it would have profound consequences on they way we understand both religion and science.
The Old Testament to me seems more like stories that serve as guidelines. But besides that, I think that it is one of the many things that leaders of the Christian faith have built up to keep people on track. I'm not saying that the Christian faith is not true, I just think that many of the aspects and practices of it have been perceived wrong over the years.
Yeah, but when you take something of that magnitude, and unleash it upon, and 'force' it upon such a huge amount of people, it's certain that perception is soon going to blur and misinterpretations will quickly begin to run rampant. Maybe christianity needs to be more exclusive
