What of the feedback loop. I'm not of the opinion that personal identity is an illusion, but an ineffable mystery. And here's my novel idea: There is a disjunction, and perhaps a feedback loop (though completely invisible and indivisible) created by the fact that thought makes us feel we are in the mind, while the whole of us, our bodies. are outside of the mind, and literally in the universe. We could never grasp this within, for even to dissect the brain is to explore outside of it. And what personal knowledge does come from within? Well, Einstein and Crick, for instance, experienced psychic visions. So it is productive to explore by thought and imagination, perhaps even more so than "archaeology." Thoughts?
When Max Planck discovered quantum mechanics, he begged his colleges to explain the joke, but nobody could. When desperate Japanese engineers invented modern fuzzy logic, academics ignored their success for decades. Today, corporations hoard their fuzzy logic secrets, while the US government has admitted to classifying a few jokes as, "Vital to the National Defense!" Thankfully, both humor and consciousness remain profound mysteries to modern science, and one of my goals is to program a computer with a sense of humor, that academics can never hope to comprehend.
"When you've seen beyond yourself then you may find Peace of mind is waiting there And the time will come when you see we're all one And life flows on within you and without you" George Harrison (= BeaTle)
We are space, inky black space, in these bodies IMHO. The dark lit up. No, I've never done LSD. But when you think about it it's obviously true: We are located outside of our bodies. But like the song says, maybe your outside is in and your inside is out. The thing is, inward only exists in the imagination; no matter how dig you deep, you're still on surface reality.
its your own world, but what is outside of it owes nothing to what's inside of it, and that includes anything and everything you've been told about what's outside of it, other then what's inside of it can indirectly observe with the aid of measuring devices.
Owes n Owes nothing, perhaps, but is part in partial to it? I don't think there's a disconnect, though the connection can't be reasoned with. Any more than you can reason with the stars and planets and neurons. All that is seen is on the outside, including the brain.
I'm an odd duck, in more ways than one, and don't experience the usual lsd trip. No colors, no trails, none of that, and either a trip is spiritual for me or its wasted time until I come down. I mastered the analog logic of the Tao Te Ching, and the only problem I ever have putting anything into words, is that I have to extrapolate the analog logic, which can sometimes take decades, but normally might require a week at most. My words literally tell me what they mean, and all you have to do to find the right words, is listen to what your own words have to say. Its a contextual thing, shuffle around enough words long enough, and you start to learn how they lend each other meaning, and can speak for themselves. Only westerners assume their words are inanimate and merely obey their will.
Many people who try to use LSD recreationally end up hating it because they will inevitably come face-to-face with some inconvenient truth in a virtual mirror they cannot look away from. This forces them to either accept the truth and change their behavior or avoid the mirror altogether. As for me, the Truth is my master, and I want to see it for what it is, warts and all.
