I figured you guys would love this one. It seems some colleges and employers are demanding Facebook passwords from potential employees and students..... "If you think privacy settings on your Facebook and Twitter accounts guarantee future employers or schools can't see your private posts, guess again." - MSNBC http://redtape.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/03/06/10585353-govt-agencies-colleges-demand-applicants-facebook-passwords
I know damn! This was the last straw for me, I just reauthorized my account. I go to a private college and I can't afford to fuck up anything.
That is fucked up. I am so glad that in my job they don't care about stuff like that or do drug testing.
The solution to this is to deny having or using those services in the first place. There's no way they're gong to take the time and effort to go searching for you to confirm or deny an account that may not exist (unless you're trying to get a job in law enforcement). Yet another reason to separate your working life from your private life.
Unfortunately, some employers now expect everyone to have a Facebook page. If you don't, they assume that you have something to hide. And as long as they have a lot more applicants than job openings, they feel like they can afford to reject anyone they have questions about. It's like a twisted version of Orwell's Big Brother where people are made to spy on themselves. Big companies want you to put a lot of time and effort into building a Facebook identity that proves you are exactly the kind of person they are looking for, 24/7.
haha, your employer is gonna ask for your FB password before or after your urinalysis...? (I ditched FB way back when they pulled their first privacy settings bullshit.)
If you use the services of a headhunter to either gain employment or to find a candidate it is standard that searches are done. The results are included in the package that you are given as a prospective employer as part of a standard background check. New world.
