A catatonic woman awakened after 20 years. Her story may change psychiatry. New research suggests that a subset of patients with psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia may actually have autoimmune disease that attacks the brain. https://www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/2023/06/01/schizophrenia-autoimmune-lupus-psychiatry/
I'm not surprised. Can it be treated or is it permanent? What causes the body to attack it's own brain?
I dont know but this story should have sent shockwaves through psychiatry I just searched autoimmune disease that mimics schizophrenia - Google Search I would think if people could be rescued from like permanent psychosis everyone patient everywhere would be being tested. Hate to have to be negative but I believe psychiatry is an 800 billion dollar a year industry. They are probably not so much into cures.
That sounds pretty scary. Then again being in a 20 year coma sounds like a personal hell and would mess anyone up.
With the amount of vaccinations and misuse of antibiotics today, it is a miracle that our bodies have the first clue what they are doing.
With all the data stored in her brain over that period that she has not been able to respond to, it would be easy for her to go off into long periods of incoherent ranting. If you have ever told someone to close their mouth and wait for their brain to catch up, you have taken the first step to understanding mental illness.
