Talking now about moral issues and the law. Like I've said many times before I always found law an interesting topic. Probably at least since my street law class in HS in the 80s. And then when I got my law dictionary by Steven Gifis in 1995 says. And the concept of justice built into the law.

For example he says there is a mistake of law and a mistake of fact. And there are strict liability crimes where intent is not important at all. For example there was a lady in Detroit in the 70s who had heroine in the trunk of her car. She didn't even know her boyfriend was into drug dealing, and they believed her. But she still got life in prison. But she was eventually paroled though after years of public outrage.

And the idea ignorantia juris non excusat ("ignorance of the law is no excuse") which goes back to the Twelve Tables of Roman law. They were posted publicly in the Roman forum, supposedly to make laws accessible to all, so ignorance of what is illegal could never be a invalid defense. The only problem with that is most people back then were illiterate, the story continues.
