I know power is out, and I hope water is on soon. As you hear from Hip members in the area, please post. If you are in the region, let us know what's up. dm may 3,1999 survivor
Power will be out for days even weeks as they try to clean that mess up. They are in a search and recovery mode and are going from pile to pile, not house to house to look for any victims. Once they search that area they mark it and all cars with orange paint to know it has been seached. Utility companies will make sure the electric is off to all the down lines and the gas company will shut off all the gas that is leaking. Once all that is done they will allow the people back to the area to pick up what ever they can find left in the mess. It is starting to rain this morning and storms are building again this morning. Please pray for the families who have lost everything including the children of the school.
OG&E was fast in 99, and I think 2003 (I'd moved by then). Cell calls can get out if the phones are charged and the network is up. Tazer, are you in Moore or Norman? Or other close by?
Texting works better. A text will connect quicker than a phone call for some reason right now. I work in OKC and was within a mile of the tornado on Sunday that hit Shawnee. I have lived in Oklahoma all my life and know all about these nasty storms.
I grew up in Texas and spent a decade in Norman and environs. Even worked for the Oklahoman, weekend shifts, which was storm counting for months out of the year. I lived in blizzard country, I'm now in earthquake country. Give me the trackable for a day in advance snow over the instant tornadoes and quakes any day. How is the cell/data in the hit areas? Are texts getting out?
It is getting better several of the companies have brough in portable cell towers so it has picked back up. Yesterday it was very hard to get a call to connect at all for the rest of the evening.
So the metro has cell traffic issues. That makes sense. Wonder if Jim Inhofe is rethinking that no climate change line he's spewing. And, what's the damage on the east side of 35, say.... By Pratts? Tom Cole lives over there.
