just spent a week in Mission beach followed by a week in Byron. Mission beach was just great - 14 k beach. mission is totally worth the trip. Bryon is too commerical and totally overrun. next time i will skip Byron which has all been done.
byron has been fucked. too many parking meters and the rich 40 year old sea changers from sydney with their 19 year old pregnant girlfriends.
fully agree with you. forgot about the parking meters. mission is seachanger-free zone. too few coffee shops to support a self-sustaining population of seachanger flotsom.
Mission Beach all the way!!! I live a couple of hours from Mission and it is a beautiful retreat for when u jsut want to get away. It is small, friendly and stunning, and, unlike Byron Bay, is still untouched from commercialisation, and doesn't have a tag or a label. Byron Bay, when i visited there a couple of months ago, i found to be so overrated and commercialised. I felt rather unwelcome there, to tell the honest truth. The locals there seem to be quite bitter towards the tourists, and the tourists are... well... steroetypical tourists. Personally, when i go on a holiday i would rather visit a private sanctuary that i can truly appreciate and feel warm and welcome towards, which is what mission beach offers and byron bay certainly doesn't. Nimbin... that's another story altogether... what a pathetic laugh
my grandma lives in tully wich is like 20 mins from mision beach. and i have to agree with u guys, mission beach from what i remember, is really nice place not to many people and just has that relaxed vibe about it.
i have lived most my life in north qld but alas have never been to mission beach. been to byron plenty of times, but enjoy brunswick heads much more...gorgeous beach and yummy places to eat and way less ppl!
