In my endless curiosity, I was wondering about the methanol teks. The one I refer to is hosted on erowid.org. Those who are wise, please enlighten me. Methanol is a strong solvent. It must extract more than just the dmt. Can anyone tell me what else it extracts? I would guess that the final product would not be smokable. Am I correct? But the final product is called "freebase dmt", is it not? And freebase is smokable. Ive been told that after boiling away the methanol, you can set a flame to a small part of the final product and if it doesnt blaze up, its clean of methanol. Is that true? What would a home chemist use to keep his lungs clean of vapors? I also wonder how many grams of mimosa inner root bark per 3 grams of white cappi does it take to get an out-of-body-experience? After grinding the rootbark and waiting for the dust to settle, how do you get the dust off the walls of the grinder? Can you wash it with distilled water and add bark and water to the methanol? Your knowledge is greatly appreciated.
Google Marsofold tek or Lazyman tek... Try a site called DMT Nexus... It's a simple as can be to arrive at smokable DMT from Mimosa Hostilis
i've seen those teks, and the pictures (particularly lazyman) are a bit misleading. he did a cleanup (which takes a few recrystallization washings) to clear out all the gunk, but failed to mention this in any particular detail. the other issue I noticed was the incorrect assertion that acid defats the plant material. actually, the non-polar solvent (naptha) does that. it's a whole other step in the process. acidifying (before basifying) actually protonates the alkaloids, and puts them in solution, effectively separating the alkaloids from the plant material. DMT is stable in an acid, but not particularly stable in strong base. a pH 3 (acid) soaking, followed by a pH 9 basification would probably work fine. that's the old-school method... but I'm sury the lazy way would work too, albeit very messy. basifying plant fats leaves soap in the nonpolar phase. methanol is a very polar solvent that also extracts chlorophyll/beta-carotene; methanol evaporates readily, but if toxicity is your concern, use everclear. everclear (95% ethanol) will also extract the unwanteds, but activated charcoal (think health food store) will decolorize the end product.
