Something like " You know I don't support this decision, but it's your decision. I don't want to lose my best friend so you be damn careful... Okay?"
We need a military. The enlisted personal in the military do not determine how they will be used while in service. If you disagree with how our military operates blame the Congress, the President, and the general public, not the enlisted person. That's the way I felt during the Vietnam War. I had friends and relatives involved in action in Vietnam and while I disagreed with the governments handling of that war and the public's acceptance of it, I had the deepest respect for the grunts, et al, that did the fighting.
Why do we need a military when we're usually the first to take aggressive action against countries that have no real military?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_assault_in_the_United_States_military just to mention one. There was also a documentary on the subject made recently.
ok first off if rape didnt happen anywhere else in society then you can make a case about that subject, i will wait for that day to happen before i read and respond to another reply about it. secondly to the rat, the point was already made that it is congress and the president that decides those aggressive actions. but even being all the way here in the western world we would still be attacked by foreign nations if we didnt have a military.
Perhaps the OP should take a minute to think about the price military folk pay so that she can live happily in her country and wear her size zero outfits.
Hey FYI Sexual Assault in the Military: 97.5% Of All Military Rapes Aren't Punished http://www.policymic.com/articles/2...ry-97-5-of-all-military-rapes-aren-t-punished
You said it was 'ordained' : To order by virtue of superior authority; decree or enact. As in the military 'higher ups' and 'the military' told soldiers to rape... Which isn't true or fair - yes rape occurs in the military. Read the rest of your link: e.g... In an attempt to deal with this problem the Defense Department has issued the Department of Defense Sexual Assault Response policy. A provision in the fiscal 2004 National Defense Authorization Act required investigation and reporting regarding sexual harassment and assault at the United States military academies. I think there is a higher incidents of rape in the military (statistically speaking) than civilian life. But the point is: The guilty people are the people that rape. Why would the military produce reports if they 'ordained' it?
Her? Well, then she is unlikely to be 'on the front line' and is unlikely to kill anybody. Isn't there also 'the rules of engagement'? What is she going to be doing in the military? I don't think she can be a 'combat troop' Logistics? Medical? Catering? Given how the two main conflicts are winding down, perhaps she won't be part of a 'tour of duty' - or atleast many of them. Be thankful for that.
the thinking is,why focus on one particular area when it is a problem as a WHOLE in our society. but i see you would rather pick and choose who you rally against.
i will take a quote from the article that you posted "This same approach should apply to American society as a whole."
if the evidence is there then there should be harsh punishments, but it shouldnt be that just because someone says the words "i was raped" that dosnt mean automatically someone has to sit in a cell for 5 years.
