I have 3 of his albums (QE2, Crises and Tubular Bells) and they all sound the same as each other. I would say Tubular Bells is the best out of the 3.
I said this in a thread about 'The Exorcist' and I'll repeat it here... "Tubular Bells is one of my favorite albums, but 'The Exorcist' ruined it for me." Which is still true. I play the opening section on piano and 1 out of 10 people say 'Tubular Bells'.
I am however searching for a CD copy of Hergest Ridge that I have yet to find. I'm interested in hearing the '80-guitars at once' section that everybody talks so much about on that album.
I'd rather buy the CD. Best quality. You don't know how good the track will be when you download illegally. And you can't get it on any legal sites either (iTunes, Yahoo, etc.).
I always related to Mike Oldfield - he appeared on a daytime UK interview one year when I should have been at school. He was explaining how locking himself in a country cottage, smoking lots of...whatever and recording an epic musical journey took his mind away from what we call reality - so we all have the benefit of being able to partake in that journey. I like hergest ridge - but it was the cover that struck me first - I didn't notice the music till my dutch mate played it really loud one night at 4am in the morning - my mate always had a cheap but well chosen crystal clear stereo system.
Sorry for me it's, Thank Jerry. And Freewill is just a reaction of chemicals in our brain, not a gift from God. If God gave us freewill, he'd intend us to use it, yet the main belief of christians is that if we have it, we can't use it. Like Sexuality.
I've listened to bits and pieces to Amarok, and it sounds way too much like modern New Age music, which I don't prefer. I guess the reason why I like early Oldfield stuff, is because I prefer the sounds of the late 60's/early 70's, because it's raw and stripped down and not full of the production excess that most things have today. Especially the newer Oldfield stuff in the 80's and 90's. It sounds way too modern for my tastes.
Amarok is not to be listened to by cloth eared nincompoops. It took me a few listens to appriciate it, and it still sounds better everytime I listen.
I guess I would call myself a cloth eared nincompoop, because I really don't dig modern electronica or new age music.
No, I said 18. I only just bought Tubular Bells a couple of months ago, so I'm really just getting into Mike Oldfield.
