so ive had my dreads for about 3 months now, my sis and i spent a week to twist, tease, braid, basically knot my hair up as much as possible, i dont even have that much hair there only about 6inches so i dont know why it took a week, but anyway, the ends and roots are doing fantastic, but the middle, oh that middle section of some dreads arnt doing so good so i need some guidance, recommendations, anything to help me with them. thanks in advance
leave 'em be! the middles will knot up in their own time... now they're on their way you should really do as little as possible
Thats a new one, usually people ask "help with roots!" or "help with tips!" Just give it time, they will knot.
so since time seems to be the answer to almost everything dread related i can go ahead and assume that i shouldnt worry about the dreads on the lower back of my head, cause those roots just dont want to stay in, or is there something that can be done
you can constantly maintain them to look like dreads, or just let them be. i went through the hours and hours of backcombing only to find my hair worked its way loose and was back to normal in no time. so i just let them go and now 7 months later they're showing some real progress to me. to me you can break it down to this; if dreads are a hairstyle to you then you can maintain them constantly to keep them looking like dreads for the months you want them. but if you want locks for the long haul then i suggest letting your hair be and do what it wants and appreciate the progress and fun it is to see a small knot grow and grow into a lock. im still in the beginning of my journey (7 months) but love seeing what my hair does and the progress it makes. just my 2cents
a few years back when i first got them backcombed and let them do there thing, they did the same. root and tip were doing very well. the middle didnt seem to do anything. all u gotta do is let them be and they will form beautifully
