microwaving a steak

my dad has recently started to cook steak by microwaving it. he takes raw chuck and just sets the thing for an absurd amount of time and then watches TV. For some reason i find this practice a little off-putting but whenever he lets me try some it tastes surprisingly good. and i guess i can give him the benefit of the doubt that it kills off any disease that might be in the meat. is this gross or am i over reacting?

It's not only gross, but also a waste of perfectly good steak IN MY OPINION. Apparently your dad likes it, so to each his own. I have never heard of that method of cooking steak, and I try to avoid using the microwave as much as possible, let alone to actually COOK something. If I am going to spend money on good steak, it needs to be cooked on the grill, the way it should be and medium-rare to medium.

 

I mainly use the microwave to heat somthing already cooked up, not to actually cook somthing.

Steaks are made to be grilled IMO. But if it works for him, then thats great I guess

that's the most appalling thing i've ever heard of. i still balk at putting steaks in the broiler, and that's just an upside down grill.

 

I am having steak for dinner tonight.... off the grill.

I use the broiler or the grill. I'm having grilled chicken and corn on the cob tonght but I'm still drooling in my head over the idea of a steak.

 

It really isn't that hard to throw a steak on the grill, or shit... at least on a skillet or something.

Microwave it? Nasty.

Shit dude, I've cooked chuck on a rock with fire... how badass can cooking get?... easier than a coleman.

Get your lazy ass up, build a fire, and drum yo ass off, pick yo ass off, and drink somethang good... it'll come to you after awhile. You get creative after you get some experience under your magic hat... that of which is also quite good.

 

Hmmm...well, to each his own, I suppose, but as far as germs and bacteria goes, when it comes to steak, your main worries are the bacteria on the surface, since steak is a pretty dense muscle and its less likely for bacteria to get inside. I wouldn't really worry so much about it getting him sick, but my god, isn't it like eating rubber? There's just so many better ways to cook steak that really don't take that much time or effort, I agree, what a waste of a good steak...lol.

microwaving steaks is just ridiculous.

I recall back when I worked at a steakhouse, one "experienced grill cook" would throw a steak in the microwave for about a minute, just to make the steaks come out faster. it was nasty.. I dont know why anyone would cook a steak in the microwave.
