Agreed. It isnt bad at all...but its nowhere near as good as Oracular Spectacular. I guess theyre hard to compare though, because theyre so different. If they'd have tried to do something similar it would have most likely been an epic fail. Brian Eno is easily my favourite from Congratulations.
^^^100 percent disagree. It is much much much better than Oracular... and so far, it's probably one of if not my very favorite album this year.
I liked their old cd better, but I think that's just because I always attach to the first one I listen to a lot more than any of an artists other projects. /:
:iagree: I LOVE IT! The direction they are going in is great. It is so unique and full! but i can say its not for everyone.
I like they're new album. They have a couple songs that could be on oracular.. You have to listen to it all the way through and really listen.. Like lay down with headphones on listen.. And after a few times you recognize the sounds and like it more, as with any album lol.. Their new album is just as good as the first in a different way
Oracular Spectacular is obviously the more 'poppy' of the two. Congratulations, IMO is superior though. There is a quiet energy that pulsates throughout the entire album, it's so much more subtle but still feels just as explosive... there's just something that's so exciting about the album. I listen to it as a whole instead of flipping around songs. Andrew's voice is also much more mature, and really the entire album is as well. I really like where the band is headed. And Congratulations is definitely my favorite album this year thus far. I have tickets to see them in Miami Beach in October and I hope they play every song on Congratulations...
Song for Dan Treacy and Siberian Breaks are my favourite off the new album. I like it just as much or even more than the first album. It's more subtle.
when did you see them live? I know they have had many problems in the past with their live shows and even openly admitted that they are like a shitty college band live. Andrew has been going through extensive vocal training and they have seemed to have pick up a lot of energy during this current tour. Hoping they kill it at the show at The Fillmore.
I've only listened to it a couple of times. It doesn't have any songs that immediately attach themselves to you like their first album, but I kind of like that. I like that they are steering away from being so poppy. I also dig any band that tries something completely different on every album. Bands that keep the same sound from album to album get pretty boring after a while.
yes, i love every one of their songs and andrew vanwyngaren is my soul mate and their lyrics are epically amazing, insightful, and transcendental. i like their old album and their new one, and i also believe their sophomore album is a tad better than the 1st one because its a better representation of what music they want too be known for, apparently. they are sepctacular
MGMT is amazing, and they are self described hippies! I think the new album is fantastic.
