I don't believe Mexico owned California for very long though. I think it was like 25 years or somewhere there abouts. And while US did acquire (take) the land from Mexico, iirc the Mexican government was essentially indifferent to the area prior, they had chances to expand but it was mostly rancheros that moved here and not really like major political or infrastructural figures.
You got me See the thing I don't really think they are human. So me caring for them is kind of the same thing as caring for a dog or a special needs person. I get to feel good for taking care of something that can't care for itself. If I don't get to feel special I have to see how much of a lazy failure I am. If I only I would just treat them as equal. I know this is the standard right wing view of racial relations is caring= not respecting
Me and my Posse been guarding the Mexico border since Pancho was gunned down in the sand, but Lefty split to Ohio. Where he got the bread to go? Fuck knows.
Spain colonized California in the 1770's Just who gets worked up on hyphenated ancestry titles any way. Is this some strawman? And yes. I work with African Americans, they come from Liberia & Ghana.
I always thought Mexico was part of the Americas, the United States another part, Canada another, Peru, Cuba, Uruguay, etc.
I think the reason the USA is often referred to as "America" despite the 2-continent land mass named after Amerigo Vespucci being the REAL America, is because the country is called "the United States of America" and it's a long-ass name that got to be slanged and abbreviated. Plus, the United States was the very first independent nation in both continents. And many people from the UK referred to that territory as the American territory, so the name got to be forever stuck.
it was the time of enslavement of the native people, by the Catholic Church. Think Junipero Serra. California didn't become a state until 1850.
The post I quoted responded to a post that was quoted saying Mexican descent. I wasn't really disagreeing with her just being pedantic.
That guy is a tool. Semantics don’t matter. Put either word first, you’re still saying the same thing.
Pretty sure that is exactly the reason. Not sure why people bitch about it. Not a big deal. Usually the bitching doesn't come from Americans though. That is odd.
During World War I Mexico had an opportunity to ally itself with Germany (The Zimmermann Telegram) and chose to back America.
Actually I recently read a book that explains that the United States of America doesn't have a name like Italy or Germany. It's the united states (in lower case) of America. Independently named states, united in the Americas. Very good book about the history of the United States, btw.
