I’ve been with my employer for a few years now and they throw an amazing end of year holiday party. Free alcohol all night long, elegant setting and delicious food. But they don’t allow spouses or significant others to attend. Last year, a few of my colleagues got drunk and said a few things that I brushed off as being said because they were drunk. They weren’t sexual but definitely flirty. But a few other women were offended by things said to them. Do you think companies take a risk by not allowing SO’s to attend these things? What does your company do?

I've honestly never heard of a company Christmas party that was closed to significant others.

Hell, I'm bringing my sister this year. Some people are even bringing kids.

Not inviting the SO's is an obvious setup for some Yuletide hanky-panky, not surprised you noticed some inappropriate behavior for the workplace.

As a former small business owner, I did host holiday parties, non-denominational, and served beer and wine, but not the hard stuff, and always allowed some smoking - outdoors away from the ones that don't smoke anything. That being said, having SO's there certainly kept it family-friendly - and we encouraged folks to bring good friends along also as I always thought that the more, the merrier!

Now that I am older, I no longer host parties. Too much work. I'm open for invitations however!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

I guess there is a feeling that the spouses will be bored? Idk. Most of my friends though, their SO's are invited to theirs. My husband's is also open to spouses, etc.

The party is at a really elegant place and perhaps they'd have to cut back on alcohol, and the venue if SO's attended. It's just interesting in light of all of the allegations made against celebs and politicians, that employers would take the chance. Happy holidays to you, too! :)
