I'd put them in a 'Pantera, Slayer, Megadeth then Metallica' order.

nah it was best of the three, Megadeth cant compete, Metallica...well changed..and Pantera broke up, But despite a waning popularity, Slayer has consistently produced exactly what their fans are asking for, for longer than any of the others. Every album great.

Pantera for everything they ever did.
    Metallica fucked up, yes.
Dead Skin Mask by Slayer is a classic but they're not as good as Pantera.
    FUCK Megadeath.

Megadeth is truly under-rated on this forum. The other bands on this poll would never be able to pull off a cover of a megadeth album. Can you see Kerry King playing a solo on Rust In Peace? Dime trying to keep up on Killing is my Business? Kirk on Peace Sells? C'mon, he's lucky to figure out how to play the early metallica solos a la mustaine. That being said, solos aren't everything.. i guess.

Metallica, there's no questioning their first 4 albums, with the help of Dave Mustaine, but they are quite good song writers as well, see Mechanix / The Four Horsemen.

Slayer. These guys were once great, and then came the 90s..
1994's Divine Intervention, 1998's Diabolus in Musica and
2001's God Hates Us All... Nothing more than a second rate thrash equivalent to metallica's 90s era. Christ Illusion is their best offering since the 80's in my opinion, but I hold little hope for a good follow-up.

Pantera, these guys were truly great, had they been around longer I'm sure they'd stumble much like those who came before them, but due to insanely shitty circumstances, this can never be tested. I'm excluding the Glam era, as to me, this, if anything would be the same as the other bands later works.

I don't know if I can justify putting any of these bands above the other, they've all done so much for me over the years. I vote #1 for all of these bands above any other metal band of the 80's to present day, with the possible exception of Kreator. This isn't to say that there are no other wicked bands, as there most definitely is, but my opinion stands.

Considering that both Metallica and Pantera stole their sound... minus vocals... I can understand that much of it is an aqquired taste.

Rating them how you see fit is still under-rating the band.

I don't think so, and certainly not if you're answering the question who's your favourite.

no it's not man. i may be under-rating them in your eyes, but initially it's a matter of preference.

I'm not stating that you should view them higher, I'm just stating that generally people underrate dave's ability to play based on a song or two that they've heard. you can have any opinion you wish, but it can still blatantly underrate the talent that the band has.

Furthermore, if you can listen to a song such as Holy Wars ...The Punishment Due, and say that the band sucks, I would question your love for true metal. haha.

but it's not under-rating the talent that the band has, is it? Where did i write "megadeath are talentless and can't play for shit"? i wrote that i don't like megadeath (well, "fuck megadeath", same thing).
as it stands, i think the members of megadeath are very talented. but then again, so were classical composers of the late 18th century but i'm not into that either. that's not under-rating though! that's called voicing my opinion.

    "haha" (what's that all about?)

I like how you've taken this as being directed to you. I've noticed through different threads that people have showed dislike towards megadeth claiming that they suck / whatever, I openly said that they were under-rated on this forum, not necessarily this thread.

Once again, you can rate a band how you want, but it can under-rate them. If one says that they don't like them, and that they suck, they would be under-rating them, as they clearly do not suck, they've stood the test of time, sold millions of albums, done successful tours..

they = dave, the rest come and go.

And before this is compared to brittney spears or whatever, lets not forget who gets the media attention, who is shoved down the public's throats and who's selling sex.

psy, "Haha" is how I spell the sound which is made when I laugh.
