Mephedrone Information/Surveys

Hi there I am currently writing an essay on the banning of mephedrone in the UK and wondered if any of you guys knew of any important/useful surveys I could include.

Specifically I am looking for the effects of the ban, so where did people buy it after, how much more was it, how much more cut was it etc.

Also usage figures, whilst wildly unreliable, would be useful.

 

nothing has changed over here in the states...it pops up in small circles of drug users, and has been pressed into ecstasy pills that have circulated around here.

 

I doubt you're going to get people to be much more specific about where they got it than "over the internet," or "from abroad." If they know where to get it, and use it enough they could help you, they probably don't want it getting blown up in some research paper.

 

I did a paper on mephedrone in the spring you'll have to look for the citations and stuff. But worthwhile information I recalled is that it was the 4th most used drug in the u.k. In 2009. It was also unique in the sense that it was many young teens first experimentation with drugs, a certain percentage reported to using it who had never even smoked pot or drank before.

The report of a young man supposedly ripping his scrotum off on it was fabricated and I know at least one of the deaths attributed to mephedrone was falsely attributed. There have been some actual incidents with combining drugs resulting in hospitilzation and maybe a few deaths.

I don't think anyone has strictly died from mephedrone but its symptoms are similar enough to that of other stimulants that its a possibility.

I'm reading a lot of papers by someone called Measham on drug use, but obviously it's hard to find published journals so soon.
