    We are going to add new member groups to the forums. You guys can signup and join a group and then have features available only to that group like group forum(s) and calendars.

    If you have any ideas for new groups let me know. You should already have at least half a dozen people lined up for the group, so start a thread and get people interested BEFORE you suggest the group here.

    Alright Skip, I've got a quite a few people interested in a group. I talked to them through private message, so if you need me to make a thread about it so you know I'm not volunteering people let me know.

    So far it is myself(obviously), raving sultan, insanejester, ssreetnulov, fitzy21, lodui.

    How is this going to work as far as new people joining. Will we have to ask you to add somebody each time or is there going to be a way certain, or all, group members can add new people on their own?



    Edit: and indian~summer and boogabaah and also love fest1969 and _orgazmik_ and kozmicblue and I believe I got a yes from naykidape, but I have to double check that.

    I'm not 100% sure what all you can do with the groups either. Basically you get to control access to your resources. That means if you have a forum or calendar you can decide whether or not to make it visible, and to whom. Whom to give access to, whom to let view, whom to let post, etc.

    So for instance you could leave your forum viewable to everyone but require them to join the group before posting there. I think you could also allow other usergroups to post or not at your discretion. So senior members, mods and admins could be allowed to post without joining the group officially. Or you could just keep out new members.

    That is all there is for groups at present. Software updates (and my coding) may enable more features later.

    Oh, you CAN control access to certain galleries thru group membership as well!

    So essentially you can start a gallery and only allow group members in to see it!

    Actually I have to manually set all these features up for each group. And once things are setup to your liking, I won't be keen on changing things unless there's a big problem.

    So you can have:
    A group Forum
    A group Calendar
    A group Gallery

    You'll also need at least one group moderator to deal with the problems.

    So from the group nimh named, do you need a list of members or what? In any case, it sounds like a great feature and I'm excited about it. :)

    All I need is the parameters to set the group. Who do you want to allow and who not? Not individual members, but other groups of members.

    Ok, so what you basically need to know is:

    Name of members interested in being in the group
    What user groups can and cannot view group calender
    What user groups can and cannot view group forum and gallery
    What user groups can and cannot post in group forum and gallery
    Who will moderate group forum and gallery

    Am I to understand that correctly?

    No I don't need to know the member's names. The moderator will control access to the group.

    The rest is correct! :)

    Just keep it simple. Like group members only access or whatever.

    Oh, I need the name for the group too.

    Samhain and me have a question regarding the group we're creating-

    if we allow access to a member and later on they cause some sort of problem to a member, would we be able to kick them out or is it permanent once we allow them in?

    You just need to contact a supermod or me. We can remove them (if the leader can't) and ban them if necessary. Just like before.

    If this works anything like my old forum software,
    An Admin must set it up, but the Mod(s)
    add or remove members to the "Group".
    (By way of Application.) That means the
    name of the group will be public info. But to get IN
    to the otherwise private forum, if it exists, Folks MUST apply
    to the Mod(s).
    Or meet certain criteria. (I used # of posts before members could access my online .swf games.)

    The leaders can remove folks from the group. Just go to list members and there's a check box for doing so.

    You need to let me know the name of your forum, and whether it is visible to all.

    Once the group gets started you will have to have 100 posts and apply for both moderators to approve.

    Yeah it's not too hard....

    just a rule we came up with to keep aliases out.

    Skip, I will also pm you about this but I had to apply for the group through Samhain. Since we both will be the mods/group leaders- why did I have to do this?
