*I was just wondering how many, if any, of
you guy's practice and sort of meditation,
    prayer, self-reflection, etc.?
And if you do, do you have a certain goal
in mind, or do you just use it to either tune
    in or tune out yourself?
I currently meditate with the priority of God-
    communication/realization, but I dont have
    a specific science down yet.
Im hoping to prepare myself for advanced
soul states which I imagine can lead to
Sat Chit Ananda. I would really love to
be received on diksha to Kriya Yoga as
taught by the descending guru's from
    Yogananda's Self-Realization Foundation,
but that is just one of my dreams. Hopefully
some day it will come true :)

Here's some help if you want to start
meditating, or if you've tried and are sort
of at a loss as to what to do.
Watch life go by you, see all the faces and
the clouds and the birds, the cars, the
grass, trees, and flowers. Hear the bugs in
the rural atmosphere, and hear the drama
of the fast paced city life.
See your own emotions roll past your sense
of perception, watch your thoughts drift
by on your screen of conciousness. Hear
the bugs buzzing and the machinery humming
    with energy.
Then think "Who, is perceiving all of this?"
The thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc. are
external products of the internal sense of
    awareness.
But, what or who, are you actually?
Where does your awareness come from?
Just some suggestion, hope it helps friends.
    Rosewood, cherries & tomato juice,
    Namaste happy people :)

i meditate. zazen(Shikantaza). i have no goal... other than to just sit. to be open.

Shikantaza is definitely the best method of meditation for me.

But Willy, to just sit and be open is in
a way, a goal, dont you think?
I mean, not in the sense that you are
    definitley trying to achieve anything
    pre-'meditated' but you are
sitting there for the purpose of letting
life really soak into your being, right?
I think that's wonderful man, good for you! -

    I meditate.... somewhat.

I can't really claim that I REALLY meditate... because the only time I do it, is when smoking. Lately, I will smoke, and meditate for an hour. But since I use weed, I'm not sure if its considered REAL meditation.

I'm not really sure if I've been getting anywhere or not.
And the one time I tried meditating sober was nearly impossible to drop down like I can on weed

I have no knowledge or experience of any meditation or its techniques

    i supose in a way.
if your gaining something from the experience than thats excellent, but you don't force anything into the mind, and if something is going on in the mind you don't try to force it out. everything that happens is organic and is not directly controlled by the conscious mind.

i don't consciously gain something every session, but with regularly scheduled sessions the benifits are endless.

I started meditation awile back but didn't really get anywhere until I was about 15. Then I was able to get to a point where "I was". It was so surprising at the time that I honestly thought to myself "I am...." and couldn't go anywhere else with it. This first step was really all about being able to get in that state of mind. Then I started to be able to explore conciousness/mind and really really started to learn so much, I got to that point where "I knew", as Ram Dass put it. Now I sometimes recite the simple mantra Om Mani Padme Hum and use japa mala beads. Im stilll working things out really

When I meditate on psychedelics though, meditation seems to become more...
Dissolving? Expanding? Im not sure how to put it!

Reality ripping in half? Or that's what meditation
on magic mushrooms is like for me
I like your mantra btw, I've never tried it
    though.
Since I was 18 my mantra has been steay
    maha mantra.
But you know me, I love Krsna too much
to change it up lol :)
*John, btw, how many rounds do you
typically do with japa? Or how long should
    I say?
I generally go for the full 216 when I can,
though lately I have been lacking.
You know what? Tonight Im going for it

I'd like to give meditation another go...

I tried it before, but I dont know.... I cant seem to get anywhere with it.

It seems like I can just sit and let everything happen around me, and to really just be with it, with no agenda or anything... but I dont know, I dont really get anything out of it, having a deep conversation, or just thinking deeply into things seems to have more reward than meditating for me. I suppose this is because I am not doing it right...

I dont know, this meditation business has me baffled.

Nothing_Crossed, I would love to help you man,
but it is a personal journey for all of us.
I am deep in communion with God when I
meditate, but not all of us believe in God, so
I dont want to push anything onto you.
The best thing for you to do is to read as
much as you can, and talk to people who
practice daily, like the friends down in the
Meditation/Yoga forum. LOT's of good advice
    from some heady people there.
Anyway, good luck, and remember there
is never an instant result or reward with anything
    in life, and meditation especially.
It can take years upon years to reap the
harvest from that massive sowing lol :)

yea, I actually had no Idea what I was doing when I first discovered it. I was reading be here now and through reading it I was able to get to this place. My Hridayam, so then just after that on the next page he says something like "there is a mantra going, always bringing me right to my heart room (hridayam), where I dwell eternally"

So then I just startred reciting it and focusing on the vibrations of it, and it just worked!

If I use japa mala when Im meditating I usually do 216. I meditate with them 5 or 6 days a week, and then the other day/s I simply spend less time meditating

Thats what it used to be like for me. You have to find what works for you, but something that worked for me was to smoke a bowl and then meditate. It just got me in that state of mind. Its almost like you need something to initiate you, and then from there just go with it

I understand, thanks for the pointers.

I'm reading up on it as we speak, I'll take this information to heart and give it some practice.

I was thinking about doing that, but I've previously avoided it, as too many people say drugs cloud your mind while trying to meditate...

However, weed does help free my mind, so I'll probably give that a try also.

I'd like to give it some practice without too though, I don't want to have to smoke weed everytime I want to meditate ya know?

I meditate. A couple of my friends are weirded out about it, but it takes away so much of my stress. I have no set goal when I sit down in my spot, but when I start it is usually inner peace, thankfullness, or just starting a nice day. I'm not very interested in learning techniques for it, because it is just a personal thing to me. I heard that the chances of astral projection rise if someone meditates too, and I'm really interested in experiencing that.

Plus, it's just so relaxing and it makes me feel like a better person most of the time. It's nice just sitting high up on a rock letting each vibration of every sound wash over me.

Yea, but the thing is that for me I needed something to get me going. All of the information I had read wasn't helping me because the first thing I needed to do was get into a good state of mind. I find the drugs that I do to do the absolute opposite of clouding the mind. And I actually think that when it gets to the point where smoking no longer helps me I will stop it all together. When becoming a vegetarian would help me go further I knew it, so became one. When its time to change something about how you live to continue whatever spiritual journey your on, youll know.

Before my older brother died, he always encouraged me to meditate. He begged me to meditate because of the effect it had on him and how its truly the way to grow closest to God and feel the pure love Jesus Christ contains. One time he used adderall to help him meditate, and he told me how he felt that God wasnt happy with him that he used a drug to help him connect, but could still feel the ultimate love. I havent tried it yet but im very curious.

I meditate often, but not really a regular schedule. Somestimes mantra with mala beads, sometimes zezen, sometimes qigong, sometimes hatha yoga, sometimes with at tibetan prayer wheel, sometimes with mudras, sometimes with statues, sometimes with goals, sometimes without, sometimes with drugs, sometimes sober, sometimes with a light/sound brainwave mind machine...
