I have never meditated well. For me, unfortunately, it sort of comes down to just sitting there -- thinking!

So, I guess for me, it is more like contemplation than meditation.

I have read books on the subject, and sought out advice from those more proficient at it than me.

I have been given some conflicting advice. [yes I know, different things work for different people]

One thing I have been told is: Try to see black -- like you are far out in space, so far from any stars, etc. that there is nothing to be seen.

The other thing I have been told is: Try to see white light, as in spirit, the light of God etc.

Another is look for the Electric Blue light of spirit.

What works for you all? And what are your recommendations?

On another note, let me say that abusive, attention seeking, turds are rewarded when ever you respond to their infantile provocations. So please -- NO ONE IS TO RESPOND IN ANY WAY TO ANY SUCH TURDS THAT MIGHT POLLUTE THIS THREAD -- if you want to go off subject and bicker with them at their level, please do so in other threads -- thank you. This thread's ONLY purpose is the subject stated above.

And, may I remind you all about that little triangular button on the left of each post for reporting rude, abusive, posts. I suggest we use them for what they were put there for. That will be my response to any such posts in this thread!

    Now, about my question.

Don't try to do anything, just sit there and relax. I think that we are always meditating, maybe on different levels or something. I mean if you think about it, we are always in some sort of trance state. The more you try to meditate the less you will. Just like the more you try to sleep, the less you will.. in other words don't try to goto it, let it come to you.

the best thing that worked for me was trying guided meditation first...i had a hard time silencing my mind...so listening to a guided meditation at least focussed my attention on a voice that led me to a great space--kind of like hypnosis. then once i tried that for awhile i was able to go into meditation alone much easier. also the stuff i was "getting" on the guided meditations were so powerful it was a great incentive to go deeper on my own. at first when i tried on my own i'd just get frustrated.

when i do meditate on my own the trick for me is to silence my mind and think about nothing. when a thought enters my mind i don't stress about it..i just let it float away and return my focus to no-thought.

there are so many different meditations.
try sitting there and going backwards through your life in time as far as you can go
then start from there and head back. you'll think about different things.

think about mantras and hum them over and over resonate them thru your skull.

back straight, tighten your perineum sway, move your arms, stretch

    sit completely still
    4 breaths per minute
    om

Thank you mojave--I was looking for something like that, but I never noticed that button. I just figured on a "free speech" forum, anything goes and we're on our own to deal with it however we can.

My favorite meditation for increasing self-awareness (and I think it helps with psychic awareness as well) is to try as much as possible to stop all thoughts, and especially all words. The thoughts still come up, of course, but by concentrating this way I can cut down on the barrage, and then it's interesting to see what thoughts break through my lines of defense. To do this, you sort of need to divide yourself into one part that keeps a vigil and another part that is...hmmm something else, somehow. Or maybe it's just a process of switching back and forth at high speed between the vigilant self and the thinking/nonthinking self.

Thanks so much to you all. I now have some interesting new techniques to apply to my meditation process. I'll apply them one at a time to avoid confusion and assess the results. Like I said above, I realize different things better for different people.

And on another note: About that little abuse button, if people are abusive enough often enough, they WILL be banned from the forums by the moderators. Take note Turds!

    Now, enough discussion of that.

Not everyone is capable of achieving a state of meditation [IMG]

Some would-be mediators report experiencing feelings of extreme anxiety and discomfort whenever they attempt to meditate. so they just give up. but that doesn't mean there's anyhing less spiritual or less enlightened about you [IMG]

This is a good point, hotwater. mojave is really in very special circumstances that defy the norm. It may be that meditation is not necessarily a viable path for him. Something else, possibly...what would that be?

There are many paths to enlightenment but if someone can’t meditate I’d suggest lucid dreaming. By controlling ones dreams you open up a world of wonder and mystery and gain insight into the human condition [IMG]

aye. I was taught 15 years ago and have been in praxis ever since.
to sit and just be and just breathe I've found to be very beneficial and necessary in my development as a nutcase.

    :]

    lovin' it

    indeed.
    what are your intentions?
mine are balance, harmonization, regeneration (neurons) and the war against toxins and all the nasty shit in this weird society.

sometimes it appears like nothing is happening...but the more you do it the more sensitive you will become.

imagine a burning sun in your belly raging with the incineration of negativity.
    exhaling gold dust.

    friction's where it's@

i believe EVERYBODY can meditate--some it takes minutes-for others a decade...but in the meantime the more you quest the further you will go & there are other things you can do as well...time in silence every day, time with nature, caring for plants & animals, looking at positive art, listening to inspiriting POSITIVE music, long walks alone, ironing, cleaning, bathing--everything you do can be a ceremony. every moment can become a meditation. it helps life feel magical, it opens the channels of synchronicity & it turns the mundane into spectacular moments of self & divine discovery. then when you return to try meditation again it'll be that much easier. its all about achieving stillness.

I caught on really quick to it. Just sit there. Thats all. You can think all you want, and eventually will get there. If you can though, try to think of NOTHING! It's hard, but if you think if NO THING for like 5 mins, you'll physically feel different. Like your high off life. :)
