It seems like alot of kids I know are on anti deprresants, hell even alot of adults I know are on them to....even my theripist is on them. Why have so many people been put on anti deppressants recently(past 10 yrs).I have been on and off them since I was 12,since then I have been on ever anti depressant there is,none have worked for me,at one point my doctor had the brilliant idea of putting me on two kinds of anti depressants(welbutrin..sorry bout the spelling and zoloft) and at the same time I was on those two anti depressant they put me on an anti psycotic (respidal)together all three made me far more worse then I had even been to start with,as soon as I started taking the respidal I began telling people I was going to cut them the f**k open and rip out their f**king hearts, i was always threating to kill people while I was on the medication, before this I never tried to even hurt a fly.Doctors are wayto quick to hand out meds. There was no reason for me to be put on anti psycotics at the age of 14 like that,my doctor hand out meds almost liek they are candy. What the hell is wrong with todays doctors?!?!?Has this kind of stuff happened to you before, where you were put on a medicationa dnit only made you worse??

Many of the medications being dispersed by psychiatrists are often unnecessary. It is an aspect of my chosen field of study that repulses me.

Wellbutrin and Zoloft work in completely different ways. It is completely appropriate to use the two together. It seems strange to me to use both Wellbutrin, which increases dopamine, and Risperdal, which suppresses dopamine.

I am sorry the meds were so bad for you. From my occupation, I see the benefits of medication every day. Don't underestimate their value! Obviously, they are not miracles, though.

well there are major issues with the way medication is being dispensed these days. america believes in masking peoples' symptoms; they do NOT believe in solving the actual problem that the person may have. what's easier than popping a pill a day? and also generating billions for a disgusting economic sector?

i think we have it all wrong and it's unfortunate because the side effects of all of these depression/adhd/sleeping/etc meds don't really build up until you're much older and have been taking them for a while. take a look at anyone with a sensitive immune system (AIDS patients, people with chronic pain, etc) and see the dramatic effects things like xanex have on them. just because you and i are healthy, doesn't mean that these legal drugs are not doing us equal harm, that in the long run will devastate our health.

as long as americans only care of covering up their symptoms, we'll never really get to the bottom of WHY people have certain issues to begin with. personally, i'm an advocate of eastern medicine, which has been treating people with the same problems that americans have; the only difference is that it actually fixes the problem, instead of just moving it out of your field of attention. this has worked flawlessly for thousands of years.

You make some good points, but surely you don't believe this last one!

Medicine has problems, but it is not a disgusting industry. That is just propaganda.

Western medicine has prolonged and improved the lives of millions. That fact cannot be ignored.

You know what they want in China? Western medicine!

Within these forums, I have spoken quite extensively on the issue of medical abuse in the Psychiatry field. Medication should only be used as a last resort. Taming, or masking the issue, is merely an easier approach than freely admitting that humanity is incapable of comprehending the healing process.

    hold on there PhotoGra,

i'm not dissing western medicine for everything it''s worth. western medicine does some great things. seriously. for example: reattaching severed limbs. you also misheard me because i did not say that western medicine was a digusting industry. what's disgusting is the frequency with which it dispenses pills. and that is what this thread is about: pills for every problem.

i don't give much merit to your bit about China. unless they're in a car accident, they have little use for western medicine. over there, it's no surprise to see 100-year-olds out at 5am for their morning xi qong.

    what we need is balance.
