when i get nervous, i have to pee a lot. i have delt with this since fifth grade (i am going into tenth) and it really sucks. me and my friend are flying to florida on tuesday. i have never been on a plane and i know i will get really nervous. not just on the plane, but throughout the whole trip probobly. has anyone ever gone through anything like this or can anyone offer me any advice on what to do?
do you drink lots of soda or coffee? You might try drinking more water instead. Sounds counterproductive, but drinking more water actually means I pee less often, but more each time. Nettle tea might help, too.
For long term treatment, I suggest talking to your doctor about this. For the plane ride, I would suggest not drinking anything (coffee, tea, soda, juice, water, etc.) for 6 or so hours before your take-off. With no medical training, that seems like it would help with the flight, though you don't want to severely dehydrate yourself by limiting your intake for the whole vacation. How much is having to pee alot? Honestly, my fiance teases me for it, but there are days when I have to pee about every 45 min -- but that's because I'm drinking a 16-20 oz. glass of water every hour or so. Again, when you get home, go talk to a doc -- they will have better suggestions, partly because of their med. training obviously, but also partly because they will be able to talk to you about what and how much you normally drink, how much you pee when you go frequently, etc.
yeah, i dehydrate myself a bit when i'm travelling. it just makes me LOADS more comfortable and makes the whole trip easier. long road trips moving about a lot really took their toll on me since dad would get mad if he had to pull over so i could pee. so i'd be in total agony, the sort where you gotta pee so bad you can't even walk. so yeah, i totally avoid the problem. just sip on water, but don't drink much that day. tank up when you're where you're going.
airplanes are painfully dry. drink water, just don't drink sugary or caffeinated stuff. Dehydration is the worst thing you can do to your bladder, and if you already have bladder problems, this is a very bad thing.
I know it's probably not the best thing to do, but I have to dehydrate myself a little whenever I travel. I don't drink caffeine at at all, but on a normal day (when I'm drinking water all day) I have to pee about every 30-45 minutes. I have to stop drinking anything by 7PM so that I can sleep at night, otherwise I'd be getting up constantly to go to the bathroom. So, during long car-rides or plane trips I try not to drink much. Sometimes I'll just ask for a cup of ice and munch on that for a while... I still have to pee after that, but it's not as bad. I've just always been this way, so that's how I've learned to deal with it.
Having to pee that often may mean you have a bladder problem. I would get checked out because what you describe and peeing when you are nervous describes to me something like a sensitive bladder.
Have you been tested for diabetes? My father was extrememly thirsty and urinating a lot for months before being diagnosed with diabetes. Apparently constant thirst and urination is a major symptom of diabetes.
what you definately can do are kegel exercises, they strengthen the muscle that closes your urinary tract, along with other muscles down there. Doing them is really simple, you can do them whereever you go, it's the same thing you're doing when holding up your pee. Just without having to pee. This is probably not totally related to your problem, but a stronger muscle can hold more pee, and some cases of having to pee very often are related to a badly developped kegelmuscles, because they can't hold any pee. Then what other peoples said, drink not too much before the planeride, but don't drink nothing, plane air is soo dry, you will get really dehydrated when you don't drink anything. Except when the plane is taking off and landing, you usually can go to pee in a plane, and take off and landing takes about 20 minutes, so plan your trips to the toilett in advance. Go before take off, and right before the landing. Then once again before leaving the aircraft, depending on the airport you're arriving, it might be a long way from the aircraft to the toilett. And I found that aircraft toilettes are usually cleaner then airport-toilettes. And if you feel that your problem comes from stress, RELAX. Try meditating techniqes. Try to be calm. You can train that everyday. Have a nice trip
Hi Phoenix, I know it may seem like a good idea to stay away from beverages completely, caffeinated or otherwise, during your trip, but the bottom line is that that's just plain unhealthy. Airplanes in general aren't the healthiest places to be because the air in planes gets recycled over and over again and you're basically inhaling the air that people are coughing and sneezing into. You need to be healthy if you want to avoid getting sick, which would put a damper on your trip. When I drink a lot (especially when I'm on my period) I feel like I have to pee every 30 minutes! When I'm nervous I also feel like I have to pee a lot, like when I have to get up in front of people or something. In my un-professional point of view it's normal. It might just mean that you have a high metabolism. My advice is basically this: don't skimp on hydrating yourself, be healthy for your trip-drink water, juice, whatever. When you get home, as some of the other posters suggested, you might want to go into the doctor to see if you have a bladder problem. Have a good trip!
i was tested for diabetes a couple years ago because of this and the test came back negative. i havent been tested since then. i dont drink caffine so that wouldnt have anything to do with it i dont think. i have my theories but im not sure if they are correct.
I also think avoiding caffiene but also staying hydrated(but not over doing it on the water) is a good idea. You should also start doing kegel excercises like someone else said. Every woman should do this even if they have problems or not. It tones the pelvic floor muscles keeping the yoni tight, and helps alot with incontinence. Also dont be ashamed if you need to wear a incontinence pad "just in case". For the nervousness I recommend deep breathing, and getting a very relaxing ambient music or meditative cd to play on the plane. If you are interested in music I can recommend some cds that can make the flight surreal and dreamy. Goodluck!
thanks to everyone who posted advice in this thread. im very grateful for it. i leave for florida tomorrow and i will post how everything went when i get back.
