I have been thinking about this for a few years but lately with the cost of utilities going up, jobs going away and all the other crappy problems we all hear about all the time...I am thinking it may be time to pull the trigger on this thing and take a step back from societies problems.

I was thinking about getting a few acres of land, preferably with some water on it. Then hooking up some solar panels and batteries, maybe a woodstove, outhouse and moving into one of these http://www.shawneestructures.com/stock-camping.html

There are other cabins that are already insulated and have been roughed in with plumbing and electric and have appliances if I decide to use them.

Don't get me wrong, I work and want to be productive, in fact I own a pest control company that is growing all the time. The only reason I make money though, is to take care of my two kids and be comfortable. Lately I have realized that this rat race is no longer comfortable. It's just a very empty lifestyle to me.

There are some neat products out these days that I can use to get by until I get a more permanent set up.

I already have a flock of chickens and I can grow some vegetables even in this crappy soil in SC. Maybe hook up some rain barrels outside for a water supply.

I just don't want a McMansion and have to punch the clock til I die. I don't think that is going to happen anyway, I think my business will be making enough money in 10 years that I should be fine but that's irrelevant, I want to give my kids that money so they can get a leg up and choose to live how they want when they are old enough.

    I don't need it though.

You should also check out solar generators. Very very useful tools for sure.

I feel you man. I feel like I'm being belt fed into this machine that will shit me out as something unrecognizable. I want out, as you do too. Just make sure you have everything straight as an arrow and ready to go. Make sure everything has a plan b, because this is truly a plan that will put you on your own.

I know how you feel..Im looking to make a small getaway place too...to get away from the noise and people...a place where cell phones wont be taken and if there is electricity it will be for lights and keeping my water cold and steaks frozen

That's good advice man thanks, I'm an avid believer in having a backup and being adaptable. Honestly man I could probably stay in the system and be successful, but I just don't want any part of it.

We have so many environmental problems and money problems but most people still want to participate in that system. I aint gonna hate on em but I would like to see the lifestyle I described earlier become more accepted.

Exactly, a place where you have the things you truly need without the hassle and stress of the outside world. It's just gotten ugly out there and hard to stomach in the last 10 years.

I moved into a rental property in the woods very secluded about two years ago and I hunt on the property and can light bonfires without nieghbors nearby to complain and even take a piss in my yard with no one around to see or call the cops on me.

It is nice and I love but I want to take it another step and eliminate the rent and utility bills, all while continuing to make and bank my money instead of handing it over to filthy rich, corrupt corporations. Okay I'm starting to rant, sorry.

You could all chip in and buy land together and make a small community of these dwellings. Share resources and such.

Well there sure aren't as many buffalo around these days so I have to hunt rats to make a living. Even for the little cabin and items I want for it, I am gonna have to pay for it somehow.
