What causes weed to have more kief? Is there a certain time weed is harvested or methods of preparation to maximize kiefage? Or is it simply a result of a potent strand? If so what type of weed is the kiefest? Does dro have more trichromes than green bud?

It all depends the amount of care and attention the plant recieved while growing.

And, dro is not a type of weed.

Differant strains are better than others but also harvest plays a big part. If someone takes care of their plants and learns how to grow properly it'll have more keif than if you just grow 30 plants outside then mass harvest them.

you are absolutely correct. but there is one other factor to take into consideration: the time of day that you harvest. the majority of trichrome production occurs in the night cycle. so if you harvest first thing in the morning the plant will have replenished the trichromes that it would have lost in its natural habitat [outdoors]. you may have one to three percent more trichromes on the plant.

I suspect that your friends are growing indoors.
When I used to grow indoors, when the plants looked just about ready to harvest I would give them 36 hours of darkness before harvesting. I always though it improved the quantity of trichromes and the quality as well. but that's just my personal preference.
