According to the latest study on the effects of marijuana on our lungs, cannabis is far safer than tobacco use. This 20-year study of 5,000 young people found NO lung damage to casual pot smokers compared with tobacco smokers. It appears there is something in the cannabis, most likely the dozens of cannabinoids that act as a protectant, preventing inflammation. This also bodes well for protecting against cancers which are widespread among tobacco smokers. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/10/marijuana-and-lungs-study_n_1197854.html
what if you smoke both? does the weed cancel the other one? AND, dont tell me that resin doesnt get stuck down in there either. have you ever had to clean out a bowl before?
It is possible cannabinoids can have a beneficial effect on cigarette smokers, but this study didn't come up with that conclusion. It only says casual pot smoking doesn't damage your lung function, whereas tobacco definitely does. The tars that get stuck in your lungs need to be coughed up on a regular basis or they can cause problems. I think it's easier for pot smokers to cough up this tar than tobacco smokers. Marijuana smokers can also filter their smoke, or use vaporizers or eat their cannabis. Eating tobacco would kill you! Yet there is no known lethal dose for cannabis. Just imagine if they discovered that smoking pot helped reduce the risks associated with cigarette smoking! They would probably never publish that finding because of the impact it would have on cigarette smokers. They'd all start to demand some cannabis in with their tobacco! However it's more likely that the tobacco cancels out the good effects of the cannabis. So you ppl who like to smoke blunts or mixed joints aren't doing your health any good!
Yeah cannabis smoke is safer than tobacco smoke, I've known this for quite some time. Based on a study I heard about where apparently people who just smoke ciggerettes are more likely to get lung cancer than people who smoke ciggerettes and cannabis. That is not to say cannabis smoke does not do some damage though, as it is smoke after all. But as far as I can tell thats about the easiest/quickest way to ingest cannabis.
at least the holy herb hasn't been fucked around with like the tobacco industry does with cigarettes.
If one must smoke a ciggerette they should smoke additive free ciggerettes made with pure tobaccoo not tobacco and whatever the hell else they put in brands like marlboro.
i know of a dog in cali when i was there that died by eating too much weed. maybe not be deadly to us, but for our furry friends it can be
Good shit! Always good to see studies and articles like this which are proving and promoting cannabis as an acceptable and safe way to medicate, reduce the effects of stress(a real killer), improve well-being, and to learn to be in the present to enjoy and view life in a different state of consciousness; which is harmoniously peaceful and creative. The participants were mostly blazing joints, and not many people in the study were blazing more than one joint a day.. So I'm curious: what would the results be say, if they were true stoners, not just casual smokers, and were bonging or vapein' a couple bowls daily and for 3 seshes or something? The average amount of cigs the cig smokers smoked was 9, so of course those people would have greater lung damage from 9 cigs/day rather than an average of a joint or two a few times a month blazing. But yeah this was a study of average consumers of both, and I guess cig smokers tend to smoke a lot more because of the addictiveness

I remember in school they said smoking pot was 10X worse than smoking. Even at a young age I figured it was bullshit.
Some growers don't give a shit what they throw on their plants to save them from pests and mold. And many medical patients end up ingesting god knows what from those plants! If only all growers were conscious of what they're doing to their customers...

the easiest and quickest way to ingest cannabis is to make tea out of it. It is extremely potent! Plus there is NO damage to the lungs. That is what a lot of people do with shrooms too
the picture is a lot more complex than that. first off, tobacco in the cigarette is not pure tobacco, cannabis however is. cigarettes have hundreds of additives in them, none of which are being listed as ingredients on the pack. some of those additives are chemicals that increase the probability of cancerous transformation in the cell. then, cigarette smoke injures macrophages in the lungs, macrophages being the cells that kill bacteria and other harmful substances. the cilia are also harmed by cigarette smoke and smoke actually destroys lung alveoli, reducing them in number. this is all done, not by the tobacco plant, but by the chemical additives in commercial cigarettes. so it's simple to understand why cigarettes pose a greater health risk than weed. there's one more angle to this thing though. one of the major defense mechanisms of the body against toxic chemicals is their molecular alteration--biotransformation. how this works is that the chemical is rendered more polar, i.e. less lipid-soluble. most importantly this facilitates the toxin's urinary and fecal excretion from the body. the problem with this, however, is that the liver enzymes that mediate the transformation instead of detoxifying substances, can actually toxify harmless substances. and this is the case with chemicals in cigarette smoke. in reality they are harmless to the body until the liver enzymes get their hands on them. the major component of cigarette smoke is transformed into a carcinogenic compound by the microsomal enzyme system (MES) of the liver that performs this function. the MES is not functioning at a constant rate. the number of enzymes in this system can be greatly increased by exposure to chemicals. in different individuals this increase occurs at a different rate. which at least partly explains why some people can smoke all their life and have no sign of cancer in their body while others smoke some and die of cancer. it has been found that individuals with a highly inducible MES (higher increase in enzymes) are 20-40 times more likely to get a lung cancer from smoking. so there. the story is a lot more complex than that.
every time i smoke my sinuses get so fucked up and clogged like 2-3 hours after i smoke. I can barely breath its fuckin killin me. Nasal spray barely does anything to fix it. idk what to do.
What you do is find a recipie that suits you and COOK with it...and your sensitive little sinuses won't bother you.:mickey:
the reason for this is that cigarette smoke immobilizes the cilia in your airways. the airways contain cilia (which in essence are motile hairlike extensions on the surfaces of some cells) that beat toward the mouth. bacteria, dust, and other particles contained in the air you breathe get stuck in the mucus which is moved by the cilia to the pharynx (toward your mouth) and is then swallowed. ciliary activity is inhibited by cigarette smoke which can immobilize the cilia for several hours, therefore the mucus and all the particulate matter stuck in it stay stuck in your airways. maybe this whole talk is boring to you, but the main point of the science behind it is-- there is no cure for this. nothing you can do will make this problem go away, except, stop smoking already.
