ok first off, this isn't a stoner basher thread or anything like that, it's just a problem I've been having. During my teens (I'm 18 now) I havn't had very many drug encounters, but it wasn't until the past couple of months it's really been hitting me hard. When I was 13ish I was dead set on never getting high or drunk EVER! I just didn't want any part of it (mainly because of my upbringing) but around that same time I started realizing that literally everyone has gotten high or still continues to get high. My own mom had her days lol but what really messed my mindset was finding out ALL my favourite bands and people I look up to are stoners, or smoke failrly regularly. Then last week I had my first band practice, everything was great until everyone pulled out their pipes, they respected my decision not to partake but just knowing they did that made me uncomfortable.

I'm not trying to bitch that drugs are bad and evil, I just want to know what you guys would do in my situation, where your parents taught you that drugs weren't the right thing to do.

    -thanks guys so much

a large majority of parents of people in this forum dont know about/don't approve of their children doing drugs...
its a parents duty to at least think they are protecting their child.

but parents are just a guide... you need to choose your own path in life. especially at 18.

Ignore what you have been taught, as put in context to what the dangers of marijuana really are, i'ts bullshit. Simply put... and I don't want to sound like a "typical" stoner or anything, but: partake. Get high the once, and decide whether its for you.

Don't worry about the health risks, as for occasional smokers, there are practically none. Noone has ever died from use of cannabis, it isn't physically addictive, and you cannot overdose; but this is not to pursaude you to do it... it all depends on whether it is for your or not.

What I'm trying to say in my ramblings is: it's either your thing or not, almost everyone has tried it and that is the best way to decide, just don't use the law or what you have been taught effect your decision.

hey man, it's all your decision. First off you should do your own research. Respect the teachings of your parents but remember that they are not infallible. after you've gathered enough technical data about weed and heard enough of others' experiences, then you can make a well informed decision on your own usage. For the most part, I say, if someone is curious about weed, they should just try it with someone they trust (maybe your band mates) and if they like it, continue at their own pace, otherwise forget it if it's not for you.

btw, i'm actually not sure what you were specifically asking about. I just assumed you were asking how you should decide if you want to smoke or not, since all the influences around you seemed pretty kewl and accepting of your decisions.

I see your guys points, and I totally agree with all of you. I guess it's just hard for me because all the imagary is so focused on the negative aspects of getting high. It's hard to break out of that protective barrier so to speak.

    TRY IT.

at least see for yourself if you like it or not. its harmless. if your mom 'had her days', then even she knows that weed is harmless.

I have tried it, I just want to break that part of my subconscience that associates pot with stupid, lazy, high school drop outs. When I KNOW that that's far from the case.

Well if you know it's far from the case, your half way there.

Do you go to a lot of music festivals? You will find some of the most intelligent, interesting and positive people there, who use drugs.

hey if you don't like pot, you don't like pot, but it shouldn't bother you when other people smoke. If you dont like the smell or something, then i guess leave but otherwise just chill and let ur friends have their fun. tell them ur on UAs (drug tests) or something so they dont bug you to smoke

A lot of my friends have this same problem... because some of my friends smoke weed (I do) and some don't. The thing is that most of the ones that don't have the same reason as you- because they have been taught that drugs are bad. This is the advice I gave them: if you are the least bit curious about it, then do it, because you only get one life and regret sucks big time. Also, I don't know if you're in college or you will be or you won't, but if you will be, then you're prob. gonna end up smoking at some point anyway. Just make sure that you do it when you have people that you trust and care about around.

    *hope that helps*

they have, everyone's taught that from a young age. they put this dirty label "drug" on cannabis as if it's an insignificance, a hazard, a disgrace. cannabis plants are some of the most intriguing beautiful things in the world, but people in authority don't see that, they just fuck it all up. it makes me laugh though when i hear people preaching about how drugs are bad - how many of these people have a coffee in the morning? or a few cigarettes after it? or a few beers after work? fuckkkk offffff, they make me sick.

I've been smoking since I was in 7th grade and any negative consequences I faced from smoking pot occured before I was 16 years old. Getting in trouble in school, with the law, with my parents... pretty much all the problems associated with pot occured when I was too immature to handle smoking. I never took seriously the fact that this plant is not completely socially accepted and if you plan to fit a drug oriented stereotype there will be negative consequences if you do indeed consume drugs.

Now I'm in college, have a job, loving life, have no criminal record, learning a lot and smoking (vaping) just as much. If you can control yourself and act maturely about the substance you consume... without allowing the substance to take over you then you should have no problem smoking on occasion. It is only harmful to those that dont respect it, respect themselves and lose control. Anyone who sits and smokes 24-7 without ever taking into consideration the notion that they are wasting life and time is missing the point and running away from themselves.

Pot can be really helpful especially to artists and musicians if you are able to seperate yourself from the idea that this substance is the key to your creativity. Your brain is the key to your creativity and pot can aid in that if used properly.

You know what, your absolutly right! no, seriously!

That's so true, cigs are legal but they are deadly, pot isn't.

The only concern I have left is the smell, does it stay in your clothes? Your apartment?

im a hardworking person but i do have my lazy times too (whenever im not working, haha) just because thats not who u are doesnt mean, weed will make u that way. if u act smart and responsible while still using weed. it just proves that it doesnt matter what other people think or stereotype you as.
