Drug smugglers trying to get marijuana across the Arizona-Mexico border apparently are trying a new approach — a catapult.

National Guard troops operating a remote video surveillance system at the Naco Border Patrol Station say they observed several people preparing a catapult and launching packages over the International Border fence last Friday evening.

Tucson TV station KVOA said Border Patrol agents working with the National Guard contacted Mexican authorities, who went to the location and disrupted the catapult operation.

The three-metre-tall catapult was found about 20 metres from the U.S. border on a flatbed towed by a sports utility vehicle, according to a Mexican army officer with the 45th military zone in the border state of Sonora.

The catapult was capable of launching two kilograms of marijuana at a time, the officer said Wednesday, speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons.

Soldiers seized found 16 kilograms of marijuana, the vehicle and the catapult device, the officer said.

The smugglers left the area before they could be captured.

I've always wondered about the idea of using homing pigeons. Take them across in your car to Amsterdam, strap some hash to them and let the free..

Makes me think of Trailer Park Boys when they used a model train to smuggle weed across the Canadian border.

i have never had mexican weed good enough to bother smuggling it any where...is it better now than it was 20 years ago?...i remember it as crushed kilo bricks with too much shrapnel in it...and acapolco gold usually came from elsewhere if it wasnt a myth altogether

Weed from Mexico covers the whole range today, from bunk crap like in our youth up to some fairly decent bud. Haven't seen pressed bricks in decades though, now it is mostly "gently compressed" into bails rather than the old kilo bricks that were so hard you could beat an ox to death with it.:p

And yes Acapulco Gold was real and was light tan/golden in color, airy buds that had a very nice spicy aroma and taste.
    Ahh the memories of youth.....:sunny:

we have bought ;;gold;; a few times...who knows if it was real..remember when Hawaiian was the best weed to buy?..and pb..we are old...rember the paraquot scare back in the late 70s....everyone was nervous they were smoking weed with a herbicide the mexican government was spraying on crops to kill them...if i rember right it was the US government that gave the herbicide to the mexicans and even helped spray

I just bought some shit hash again. It's pretty unexciting, just making my teeth more yellow. Fire some of that mexican dank over here in a rocket ship meant for mars, sling shot round the moon if possible. Please time the rear lunar transition to match the length of the album by pink floyd of the same name.

Yes, I do remember fondly Hawaiin $200 bucks an ounce and it would give any of the "brand name" weed today a challenge as which was better.

Paquat LOL, there was a radio DJ (don't remember the station) in LA that adopted the name Paraquat Kelly. Watched a friend flush 2 ounces once because it tasted off and had suspicious brown spots all over the leaf.

Damn, we are getting old ain't we. :p
