a friend of mine who used to have dreads down to his lower back used mane and tail, the horse shampoo. first of all, i'm not very crazy about using horse shampoo. secondly, i haven't heard of anyone doing it yet. but he had the most incredible dreads ever so i thought it deserved some research. anyone know anything? is it even residue free?
My sons have friends who have used it..They said it was very good. I personally have used the Mane and Tail "hoof" cream on my feet..It too was very good....Years ago there was a product (Barielle nail cream) that was to strengthen your nails. It was originally created to condition the hooves of million dollar, thoroughbred racehorses and found that it worked on them too..
i heard that mane 'n' tail can be used on humans too like regular shampoo, but then i'm a redneck from montana so that isn't surprising.
I'm told that it 'makes your hair grow faster.' The person who told me this has very long hair (but not dreaded) so it may work. I don't know whats in it and I;ve never used it either. Would be nice to hear if its ok.
horse shampoo isnt any different from human shampoo. its still full of chemicals and shit. i would go for a pure, natural soap.
that's exactly why i'm skeptical of it. if i used it once or twice could it do any damage? i just want to see the reaction
well I just looked on their website, and they also have products for humans along with horses. It doesn't list ingredients, although it does say that it moisturizes and has a fragrance....which probably means it is NOT residue-free. It would be fine for normal hair, but you want something natural and residue-free for dreads.
I think it's great, I never used it when I had dreads because it's used to get knots out of horses tails, and it's very hard to get knots out of horse hair. I also used it when I was taking out my dreads.
From what people have told me, there are proteins or something in the shampoo that aids in hair growth. I personally would not use it.....I have trust problems with what people "say" so I really would not think there is a difference in shampoos. They are all really used for cleaning and moisturizing, and getting rid of dead skin cells anyways.
I used it while I was growing my hair out, it seemed to be the only thing I could use to speed up the process but YES it made my hair very shiny and tangle free so I would be scared to use it on my baby dreads.....
i used that when i was a kid and rode all the time. i might have wanted to be a horse. it's not completely awful but it does have fragrance and whatnot so you're probably better off going for a residue-free shampoo.
never used the shampoo but used tyhe mane and tail leave in conditioner it was residue since u leave it in but it sure did condition great id trythe shampoo if i had it but id try it on mature dreads only
yeah that leave in conditioner is something else LOL I used it a few times on my daughters hair because she refuses to let her hair lock but it does every single night HAHA
