Why is ManU so incredibly popular. When I was traveling Australia I met a lot of English people. A lot of the guys, people from all over England not just from Manchester, really supported ManU. Why is this? Have they always been really popular, or is this more of a recent phenomenon. In America the yankees are the most popular team of any american sport. This is because there is no salary cap in baseball and the yankees have a very high revenue, so they can get the best players. This is why the yankees have won the most championships and are thus so very popular. Is this the same thing with ManU? I hate ManU. In England I would support Chelsea, in Europe as a whole, I would support Real Madrid.
Your assertions are somewhat correct on ManU because they have a history of winning, plus there's a lot of sympathy from Munich 1958 that has been passed down. I do find though the most Mancunians I have met actually support Man City, whereas ManU seems to be a phenomenon similar to the Yankees or Dallas Cowboys...winning tradition draws them in. I'd like to point out that you're bashing one team that outspends for the players they want (ManU) for the two ultimate Cash clubs (Chelsea and Real Madrid). Real does have the history of winning, but Chelsea has bought their way to the top.
ManU was a team I once supported. Manchester is the next biggest City after London (In my opinion as you need to include Greater Manchester to appreciate the sheer size). Though I never been to Manchester, apparently they have trams and Nettos.
^^^ Yeah what that post said. I support Liverpool and always have, even before I moved there. The reason is my family supports them and many of my family members are from here. I hate when people go for the team that always wins and doesn't stay true to their local team etc.
As far as it goes, i support southampton... Man U have a bad reputation 'round here now, too many chavs.
