    Ladies,

Please help. I need to start wearing maxi's (ok, laugh now!) to catch drainage from a pilonidal cyst exciscion. Do maxi pads stick to your underwear. I need to wear something much higher in the back than I think you normally would (top of butt crack). Perhaps pantiliners or poise pads would be better...? Wings? Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thank You!

Oh Tom, that was just soooo helpful (not!) Meanie.

PhotoGra1, if you have to wear them that far up the back, don't get the kind with wings, they will just get in the way. Get plain ones without wings. Most disposable ones that you buy in the store are self-adhesive and will stick to your underwear, but I hope you wear tightywhities because they won't do any good in boxers. The undies have to hold it kinda close to your body.

I like Always brand. In my opinion, they stick the best to undies and they have this weave thing on top that makes it feel dry even when it's not. It's also softer and more comfy. You can buy the fat ones, or you can buy the ultrathin ones, in my experience they both hold the same amount of liquid, but the ultrathin ones are a lot less obvious, which would be good for you.

Always also makes pantiliners just like the pads, but if you are draining a lot from the site, you will want pads. If it's just a little bit of leakage, pantiliners will work, although I don't think they stick as well and tend to fall off. If you get the ultrathin pads, they are mostly like pantiliners only they hold more.

So, if I were you, I'd get Always (any brand will work but I like those best) pads, without wings, ultrathin. You can get them in different sizes, like regular, long, or overnight. If I'm right, your incision site probably isn't big, so regular would do, regulars are probably about the same length or a little longer than your hand.

    Hope that helps.

Edit: One more thing you can do is instead of taking the backing off the pad, leave the backing on and use medical tape and tape it. Not sure how that'd work tho... probably not that well.

please dont think I'm trying to be rude, but perhaps you might be best to get those adult diaper things for incontinence, they will probably give you better coverage.

you could try overnight pads, which have adhesive to stick to underpants. Theyre a bit bigger, longer and thicker. They come with and without wings. Wings hold the pad in place better.

Photo, I actually have a question for you. This medical condition... is it when your tail bone has hair growing out of it, and the hair keeps growing and you have to have it removed? Cause my dad had that, and I think I'm getting it cause my tail bone hurts sometimes, like whenever I put any pressure on it. He was telling me thats how his started too. Around my age it started hurting when he would be sitting on the ground or doing sit-ups or something. Am I going to have to wear pads? Also, if we are talking about the same thing... how bad does the surgery hurt(during and after)?

    Uh, kinda...
Pilonidal means "nest of hairs." It is very common in men from your age to mine, and it does happen some in women. It is caused by a very large pore, about 1 and 1/2 inches deep. Every pore has a hair folicle and an oil gland. The hair cannot grow all the way out of a 1 and 1/2 inch pore, it gets caught up. It then blocks the oil, causing the cyst and infection.

The surgery is nothing compared to the excruciating pain of an infected cyst. You will feel nothing at all during surgery, they put you under. Afterwards, it is painful for about a week, then sore for a while. It takes from 3 weeks to 6 months for the wound to completely heal, and during that time it drains heavily. That is what the pads are for. I will not have to wear them forever.

This site was very informative, check out this link:
    Pilonidal Cyst Information Here!

If this is what you have, you will know when it gets infected. I suggest having it removed surgically, as soon as they will let you. I dealt with it recurring for 5 or 6 years...it sucked...as did my doc!

Thatnks, that kind of eased my nerves a bit. I really hope I don't have it. My dad said when he got it it was bleeding, is that what happened with you?

The first time I got it, I thought I had just strained my back. I was getting ready to leave for work, when my Grandma stopped me and told me to turn around. She said, "Well son, I think you have finally started your period." !!! I went into the bathroom, and saw a spot at the top of my butt crack that was bleeding. I touched it LIGHTLY, and blood and pus was literally shooting across the counter, onto the mirror. Not a little splash, it was a stream. It was gross. The smell was even worse.

After that, I recognized when one was coming on, and I would go on antibiotics. They never worked, though. It ALWAYS comes to a head and explodes, unless you can get to the doctor at the right time so they can lance it and drain it.

You're right. I apologize. I shouldn't have been joking around about an issue such as this. Now if he was being forced to wear a tampon....

Sounds a bit like when I get bartholin cysts, only instead of on my back it's my vulva :p

not fun at all. I cry everytime I get one because I am so scared of having to have it drained again. I want the gland removed, but I don't know how it would effect me sexually. I'm cursed.
