This year I'm honestly going to buckle down and make some xmas gifts, I've got a few planned, I just have to find the time to make them :) I've found some great knitting and crocheting patterns that seem small enough so I ought to be able to do them :) Anyone else making gifts for the holidays?

Considerin I have no money but a ton of fabric (freecycle!), I guess I'll be sewing some gifts this yr.

Here are some of my ideas: pajama pants (or shorts) - nice an' simple, purses/messenger bag, pillowcase dress/romper for lil' girl gifts, (using tutorials from homegrownthreads.com or craftster.org), patchwork pillow cases (get rid of scraps),

hmmmm what the heck else?.... i was gonna go thru my son's outgrown clothes and try to make one of those cool memory quilts (is that what they're called?)... but that requires a ton of time and usually works best as a gift for a grandparent.

I WISH I could knit and crochet better... I'd be making a ton of winter gear for everyone. Hats, mittens, scarves, etc. That's always a good gift.

For REALLY poor times, we've painted rocks and given them as gifts. (We painted them to look like the birthday boy. They resembled him well, which was really creepy.)

I'm glad this thread was started.... I hope lots more ideas will flow here.

sometimes I give homemade shortbread in a handpainted/decorated container... but I only give that to the in-fam (laws, brother, sister, etc).

I made a couple painted boxes a couple years ago (pics of something simular in my gallery) for my younger sisters/cousins.

Ponchos and scarves are really easy to knit and crochet... kinda mindless knitting/crocheting you can do while watching a movie or riding a bus.

Last year for my step-monster I made her a brown sugar and ginger body scrub.

This for Christmas I am making my mother some nice head scarves as she will have no hair. I am also going to make her a booklet diagraming different ways of tying them.

Basic beaded necklaces are easy to make too.

i make pillows sometimes, really easy, you just buy scarves or handkerchiefs at wal-mart or whatever for like a dollar, two of the same pattern and then sew the edges together and stuff with filling...they generally cost about 3-5 dollars each and turn out pretty nice because you have straight edges to go by and there are some fun patterns out there

i have also made body scrub, you just take sea salt or sugar and baby oil and i usually mix some essential oils in with it so they smell, like lavendar, rose etc...pretty inexpensive and they work really well...

if you have a bedazzler, you can bedazzle thrift store t-shirts and make really cool stuff with them...if your friends are tacky like mine!

i also will buy picture frames at the dollar store and paint them or decorate them, really easy and very cheap...

i wonder what poor people who aren't crafty do for christmas!? :)

I think the only gift I'll be making for Christmas this year is a blanket for my boyfriend. I'm not really sure how to go about it. I want to make it so that it has the symbol of his/our favorite band in the middle, and I'm not sure if it'll be easier to do it by knitting or by quilting. But anyway...I'm planning on making a nice winter blanket as a gift :)
