So I'm out of pads. I realized it when I woke up to find I started my period and have nothing! I do not feel like walked 15 minutes in -20 weather to buy some, so I have to wait til my mom gets home. What can I use until then (exculding toilet paper, be creative!)? Right now I have an old (clean) sock and some toilet paper....

A clean sock (like an athletic sock or something) is what I would have suggested. I have been in a similar situation =P

sock it to your lack of hygeine products.
I used to keep our mismatched dyed socks from big batches (sweetie is a dyer)

Hi Sunburst. I have been using cloth menstrual pads for almost 8 years now and i absolutely love them. I guess in a sense it's the baby equivalent to using cloth diapers. It takes some getting used to but after awhile, you won't believe how comfortable they are. You won't have to run out to the store anymore. For me their so right, and considering the fact i will be using cloth diapers on my kids, i see no difference between the two. Their natural, convenient, economical, and i wouldn't even consider going back to those "scratchy" paper things.

Lunapads.com has beautiful ones, but they're expensive. Gladrags.com also has nice products. there are really a ton of sites. if you dont want to pay big bucks for them, they're pretty easy to make. google it (lots of sites have different patterns), and if you have a livejournal, there's a community solely about making your own pads. in fact, even if you dont have a livejournal, you can look in the community. http://www.livejournal.com/community/diy_pads

Wow,that's strange. It had never occured to me that tampons may be a health concern. I mean,in the sense of what they are made of. Just one of those things that passes by without notice. I can't wear them anyways....they never feel "right" to me. Hard to explain.

do you know about menstrual cups? i couldn't stand the thought of switching solely to pads, even if they're cloth, so i went and got one of the cups. and yes, tampons=bad. the bleaching process is bad for the environment, and the tampons themselves dry you out and create a less healthy and balanced environment down there. not the best thing to put in your body. the cup is a little more of a pain in the neck to use, and it takes some getting used to, but i think it's worth it. plus, you can leave it in for 12 hours if your flow is light. no risk of TSS. and they last for some 10 years if you take good care of them. www.divacup.com

I have heard of the cup...and I even checked it out online. I may get one of those because I do love the thoughts of using one...pads,either paper or cloth are annoying in a way.
