So I was at the flea market this morning and I found an awesome incense burner. It's so cool. It's the kinda that is long and flat with a slight curve at one end with a hole in it for the stick. But, at the other end, there's a round part cut out and a magnetic disk inside it. What is the purpose of the magnetic disk???

whoa! that'd be cool if you could put it vertically on your fridge or another magnetic surface... if you attached something at the bottom like a cup to catch the ashes. Sounds like a groovy contraption! Oh, the possibilities. :)

    $3.50

I tried sticking it on my fridge but it wasn't strong enough to hold the burner there. It's made of wood I think but it's REALLY heavy for a wooden burner. Hmmm....

This is probably in my head but after having used it a couple of times, I swear it burns faster and the smoke goes the direction of the magnet! LOL

Are you sure it's a magnet? Did you try sticking paperclips to it? I used to work in a head shop, and we had incense burners like that - but the little metal disk wasn't a magnet, it was just a spot on the burner to burn cone incense so it doesn't mar or burn the wood.

    no no no.

The purpose of the magnet is to put out your incense if midway you want to extinguish it.

but why a magnet? why not just put it out like a cigarette on the wood, or a small disc of metal?

dunno... magnet works pretty good. Incense is harder to butt out than a cigarrette, doesn't quite work the same way.

I did put out a stick on the disc just to see what would happen. it put it out pretty quickly but it smelled a little strange.
