hey. just wanted to post pictures of my new dreads.. they are now 4 days old.

sadly, as so many others not knowing better, i let the girl making them wax them, expecting her to know what she was doing. so they are a bit stiff, and the wax isnt really letting the hair knot up naturaly, as the hair is simply stuck in the wax. a lot of wax falls out when palmrolling. she melted it in, so probably got some wax inside the dreads too. but on the other hand, the amount of wax she put in them are quite small, so it could be a lot worse. because of the small amount of wax she used, hopefully i will be able to get it out over time when i can start washing.

im really pleaced with the tickness of them and everything. still got my rubberbands in at the root, not completely sure about when to remove them. thinking that maybe i want to leave the rubberbands in until the first wash in 2 weeks or so, and remove them a day after that, hoping to keep the dreads seperated during (and after) the wash. well, its only been 4 days, and still a long time untill that first wash, so maybe i change my mind.

pleace tell me what u think, any tip or comment will be apreciated

Take the rubberbands out now. Trust me, the hair's not going to meld together completely over night...you just have to separate them every now and then.

When you wash your hair try using super hot water to try and melt the wax.

    Looking cute. They're a nice size. :)

thanks a lot knotdirty. think i will take them out in the morning when i can get some help with the ones in the back. i have a hard enough time rolling them back there, so have no idea how to get the rubber bands out myself =P =P

about 15cm longer arms would help a lot =P

take out the bands, and wash your hair soon! don't wait two weeks, otherwise your head will be smelly and greasy, the wax will have more time to hang around and get nasty, and nothing good will come of it. hot water and scrubbing should do alright if it's only been four days :) they are really looking fine for babies, so have a great journey with them! and have lots of fun ;)

Not too mention all of the "things" that will attach to your greasy head in 2 weeks. Wash yer head with super, so hot you can't stand it water & a really good, non-residue shampoo (Dr. Bronners). Remove those bands & let your hair be. I've done nothing but just wash my hair every 3 days for the past month (I started mine jan 1) & they are really starting to come along... This black dude at work who had really long dreads 2 years ago, but has since cut them said that they locked up really fast. So that made me feel good today :D

Hey, your dreadling look BEAUTIFUL!!! They will mature to be gorgeous!
I agree with the others about taking the bands out. And two weeks is a pretty long amount of time to wait to wash them, I'd personally advise you to wash them once a week or so...and like a week is long enough to let them get all established and stuff.

Anyway, Best of luck with your babys!!

they look great but i agree, get those bands out soon or they will grow into the locks and will be very very hard to remove without breaking your hair too

ok, bands are out, and hair is washed. someone had showered before me tough, so couldnt get the water as hot as i would like to, so still some wax left, but i got rid of a lot of wax too. used a shampoo called "lets dread", its the only one i know of that i can buy in town, and dont have to order. i was a bit afraid to be too rough on them in the shower, maybe thats why i didnt get more out, but anyway, its a great improvement, lot of wax gone.

my draids got more loose hairs now, as they are not all stuck in the wax, but on the other hand, my hair is allowed to move freely, and will hopefully knot up in the weeks to come. think i will repeat the process with hoter water in a few days, becaus my dreads could stand the abuse better then i tough, even after only 5 days. i think i have a much better startingpoint now then with all the wax in them. ill take some new pictures soon

washed them again today. still a little waxy, but its geting better. because i washed them yesterday too, i think i have to wait a while before i do it again, but today as well, i got a lot of wax out. so not only do i need patience before i can see them knot up, i need patience to get the rest of the wax out too.

im a stubborn bastard, im now announcing that im at war with the wax in my hair, and i will not lose this war.

    thanks for the compliments lucyinthesky

new pictures, no more rubberbands, and less wax.. still waxy tough, i got some workto do. dreads are not as tight in these pictures, but thats a good thing, cause all the hair is no longer stuck in the wax... well, some hair is still stuck in the wax, but some improvement is better then no improvement. u can see chunks of wax stuck in the har some places, trying to get some of that out with my nails now

love your encouragement lucy, helps me beeing fit for fight to counter this wax problem. i dont really like wearing a hat tough, i wear my fresh knots out in the open, even with some wax here and there. "i got fresh dreads, i got wax in my hair, if u dont like it, go talk to someone else" - thats my attitude at the moment.

i just had the best dreadlock experience so far, when some randoms stranger walked up to me telling me how much he loved my hair. it happened once before, but that time it was some piss drunk girl at a bar. means much more from a sober person in the middle of the day.

moments like that make my war against my wax worth it =D

right now my fingers hurt, after using my nails to pick out some wax. i found 2 dreads in the back with so much wax i dont think they can be healed, so ill just leave em and see how it goes. they are covered by other, much cleaner dreads, so if they get really bad later on i can actually just cut them off. but for now ill just leave em there, and see how it goes.

its finally spring in norway, so enough forum-reading for today. its friday as well, time to get out of the appartment

ooh i just suggested wearing the tuque to knot them up. Wool works like magic on fresh dreads! :)

I'm glad ya got such nice compliments. i always hide mine away when i go out so i don't even think most people notice mine!
