I never got into those magazines. Were they meant to be comedy?

Mad Magazine entertained me during my childhood. But the older I grew, the dumber it got. I suppose that's part of growing up. My favorite parts of the magazine was the satire of current events and pop culture, A Mad Look At _________, and the fold-ins on the back cover. I really think it went downhill when they printed it in color and included advertisements.
