What is this new fad where everywhere you go and no matter what you do, someone has to call you ma'am? Why are we getting this overload of ma'ams from everyone. 3 years ago no one called me ma'am now everyone is and it's really silly. (They use to say Miss or nothing at all.) I thought it was just me until I heard a lady call some 17 year old lady ma'am lol. What is it with the ma'am?
I think it's this new thing that was once trying to be respectful and has turned into getting even. A lot of men&women over 50 mostly call me ma'am lol.
its a sign of respect...i don't think it has anything to do with age...same with someone calling a man "sir"
Men and women over 50 tend to call me "honey", teenagers employed at the stores I shop call me "ma'am".
i generally reserve that title for people i do not know and employees of stores. i feel it is more polite then hey you excuse me but.....
i dont call anyone ma'am except for when im visiting my relatives down south. its a huge deal if i address a woman without calling her ma'am
A woman should only be referred to as ma'am if they look to be in their mid-late 30s and older. For younger 20-something women, it's usually "miss."
Not only a little sexist, significantly ageist. WTF happened to Rochester? Did the conservative right take completely over after Kitty Fabulous moved to the southern tier???
I am annoyed if someone calls me ma'am or miss, what someone calls me shouldn't be based on age or my marital status.
So what are you supposed to call someone who you don't know in order to get their attention? Some people are way too PC.
Are we getting too picky over language here, people are just trying to be polite, they don't mean any offense..besides, it generally only happens when you are a customer somewhere
