Is it so wrong to masturbate while thinking about people in sexual ways (that one is not in love with) in order to relieve sexual stress and have a high quality orgasm? I am single. Many religious websites I see rank lust as a terrible act, but I'm having a hard time understanding why in this situation, other than it just says so.

Masturbation is a natural way to relieve sexual tension, and to discharge the sperm buildup in your testicles. You should do it every four days or so, if you are not having wet dreams or intercourse to orgasm. Don't feel guilty over doing it. Everyone does it, and those who say they don't are lying...

Only if you're thinking about animals (that you're not in love with)

Oops. Did I make an error in grammar? I'm single, no wife. I'm not in love with anyone. I wonder if masturbating while married counts as a minor form of cheating. Perhaps it would depend on what the person is thinking when done.

masturbating while married does not count as cheating.

actually going and fucking the sister in law you've been jerking off too, THATS cheating.

A lot of depends on what you believe of the teachings of the religion you follow. If they say, and you believe, it's a sin and a form of cheating, then that's what it will be for you.

I personally believe that organized religion has done more damage on the subject of human sexuality than anything else in life. I'm a student of theology and comparative religion, so I've studied this subject a lot. As long as fear and guilt is used and believed, it is used as a means to control the actions and thoughts of others. Usually there isn't a good base for any of it.

If you are looking for opinions and hoping to find someone who will agree with you, so you can find a reason to stop, that's fine... if that's what you need.

But if you have asked because you are starting to question these teachings, it's time to start doing some research and get your own answers and make up your own mind. Here you will get opinions, which is fine, and can help to direct you, but ultimately you need to find your own path.

Research health information about masturbation, and there is more and more great information on this all the time, indicating the masturbation for both men and women is not only good and healthy but essential. Then research religion information from many different denominations and religions. Then research sex information... from this site as well as other places on the internet... again, this is an area that is becoming way more open every day. What was considered sinful or kinky is becoming more and more mainstream every day.

Bottom line.. you need to decide what you believe and not believe something just because someone else told you that you should. Read lots of information from lots of different people, and if what they say makes sense to you, and if feels right, adopt it, and ignore the rest. Take responsibility for your own thoughts and actions.

I must acknowledge that sometimes I masturbate thinking about girls I know, friends or just acquaintances.

I used to wonder if it was "ethically" fair, because I have a girlfriend who will be my wife very soon.
I ended up thinking that it is fair, thoughts aren't cheating, so I still like to do it, mainly for curiosity and with lot of imagination.

That's what I think, too. They are harmless.
