I am very interested in having lucid dreams. I have set alarms for the middle of the night before so I will wake up during REM sleep and have a chance to write down my dreams before I lose them entirely. Most of what I have remembered hasn't been too interesting and I'm nowhere close to being able to become self aware during my dream. Does anyone have some crazy memories of their lucid dreams? Or maybe suggestions of techniques as to how to start becoming lucid?
Well i still have trouble figuring out what exactly lucid dreaming is, although i have two things in my head and i'm pretty sure one is right. I have never in my entire life been able to completely control a dream, I've had decisions that have been made in dreams that lead to a certain outcome but when i wake up it doesn't seem like i consciously controlled those dreams. To get more vivid realistic dreams that I can remember, I have smoked mugwort right before bed and I have had very realistic feeling dreams, although not always terribly pleasant. My friend who is really into divination says you can simply place the mugwort under your pillow or burn it as an incesce as well. i'm not totally convinced by these methods, but smoking it did seem to give me pretty vivid dreams. When smoked, it also gives you a very mild marijuana like high and the smoke is pretty harsh. I don't really know anything other than that.
I have woken up in a dream.. It happened 2-3 times.. where I realize im dreaming and can do anything.. but you are in your dream body.. so at least in my exp. the things you choose to do and how they manifest are pretty strange.. Like when I became cognizant that I was dreaming, all the times I just chose to fly.. I dont know why I chose to fly.. Its just what my dream mind wanted.. A really interesting thing happened though, The first two times I believe, that I attempted to fly, I failed, I would just float in a standing position until I got to about the tree tops and building tops, then I would lose control and start bumping into everything.. the power-lines, the trees.. It sucked!!.. but I had a really knowledgeable friend about the spiritual... he said the same thing happened to him, and the key is to stick your arms out like Superman!!! Sure enough it worked the next time I woke up in a dream!!! I was flying over the mountains, out in space, in the ocean lol.. I havent even really tried to Lucid Dream since then.. I just dont feel like Meditating latley.. and that's what I did when I was trying.. I would do a Meditation practice.. clearing my mind of all thoughts.. but when it happened it was kind of random.. it was like in the middle of the night.. all the sudden "hey I dont have to worry I'm just in a dream" lol
Lucid Dreaming is a wonderful thing really. The trick is three things. 1. Having a dream vivid enough to become lucid in. 2. Realizing you're in the dream. 3. Keeping your mind in a dream state so as not to wake up. I find that ganj stops me from dreaming as vividly, so that could be a problem. For some reason, if you keep a dream journal (writing down as much of your dream the second you wake up so as not to forget it) it allows you to both remember your dreams and make them more vivid when you're dreaming. Realizing you're in the dream can be obnoxious. One time I literally asked a character in my dream if it was a dream and she lied to me and said no! There are some telltale signs though. Watch the movie Waking Life and you'll get the idea. You just need to remind yourself to be aware of strange and peculiar things in your environment. Making sure you stay under is the hardest part in my opinion, because you can often get so excited when you begin your lucid dream that you wake up. In terms of controlling your surroundings, your dream imagination combined with consciousness is a powerful thing. If you have trouble doing something, stop trying to force it and instead guide whatever you are affecting toward what you want it to do. Once you get the hang of it you can do stuff at the snap of a finger. The last thing I'll say is that being in a dream without lucidity is a lot like being awake, which sounds paradoxical, but it is why most people find it hard to lucid dream. When we're awake doing everyday activities, we're often not aware of our surroundings as much as we think. We don't attempt to notice the world around us as we should, and this mindset carries over into dreams, distracting you from discovering the true nature of your world. So you can lucid dream now. Are you more awake in your dreams, or when you wander through your day?
I used to have lucid dreams all the time. But for some reason they stopped. Being really tired helps, maybe that's why because I get a lot more sleep now. I used to get up at 5am every morning for work and go to bed at 12am. Hardly have any sleep. And at the weekend I'd have the craziest dreams. But I'd wake up with sleep Paralysis. The worst was when I was in a field. But it was more than a dream, lol. I was THERE. I could breathe like I was there, and touch the grass, and everything. And I knew I was dreaming and I said "How amazing is this". So I started controlling my dream. I imagined a door. Walked in it, but it was completely black. And I couldn't move. Like I had died. I tried for about 2 minutes to wake myself up. I woke up with sleep paralysis and couldn't move for about 15 seconds. Which is a long time when you can't move any part of your body apart from your eyes. It was the scariest thing ever. Actually that could be why I don't lucid dream anymore. Because that experience was the worst.
That happens to me all the time! But I found that if I can make them answer what I want them to, then (of course) I am dreaming. For example the VERY first lucid dream I had, I was in the kitchen with the members of a family on a comedy TV show (Malcolm in the Middle ) and I had a feeling that I was dreaming, so I asked the Mother "What is this? Am I dreaming?" and she told me it was real life. Feeling suspicious I asked her what my middle name was, and in my head I wanted her to say 'Marie' (not my name) and she did. Then it just clicked in my mind and I was then able to control the dream. The 'telltale' signs for me are pretty much as follows: 1-powerlessness 2-being able to control other people 3-being a place other than where you went to sleep (this was a good one, because my parents are divorced so if I went to sleep at my moms and then 'woke up' at dads, it was really a dream. 4-not being able to scream when needing help. This one happens a lot.... Those are the things that I can be like 'Aha! Dream! Lucid dream time...' but pretty much every dream I have I admit to myself somewhere in it that I am dreaming. Id say being able to recall your dreams is the most important part, It is the first thing I think about when I wake up. From most recent to the beginning is easiest for me.
I had a whopper this morning. I havn't read up on any of this subject, so i can only describe what happens to me. I woke up this morning after a sick nights sleep. Tho i was rested, i still didn't feel good. I drank some milk, then tossed it up again, along with dinner. I said F-this, and went back to bed. As usual, i found myself on some kind of a construction site once i started dreaming. I've been in cunstruction all my life -so. I became lucid soon, and my memory starts there. I saw a horse rearing up and backing towards a big window. I started to run over in order to push it's big ass back thru, so it didn't fall. Just then i saw a man on another horse wayving me to back away. I looked again to my left and saw the horse regaining it's footing (it was on an incline leading up from the window). Then i saw that a person was on the first horse (a woman i think) and was getting it under control. So i relaxed and sat down on a nearby ledge. Btw, all these things (the wall with the window, and the ledge) were made of formed concrete. A commercial type building. Suddenly, an 18 wheeler backed up and slammed into the wall below me. I swung my legs out of the way before it bounced back closer to me on it's final hit. That's when i saw the padding around the loading dock door that my legs had been hanging over. That explained the bounce it did backing in hard, nearly taking my leg(s) off at the shin. I stood up and realized i was lucid finaly. I remembered how it's said that if you die in your dream, you die in your sleep. Right about then..Whoosh, a crane'e steel cable weight ball took a few hairs off of my head as it swung by. It swung back into the wall behind me, hitting it hard. I was affriad the wall was going to crumble, so i backed away...right into an even bigger crane ball. I spun around and grabbed the ball. It had faded yellow /badly flaked paint. I could feel the coldness of the steel in my hands as i noticed the weight of it, as well as it's huge hook. I woke up, with the usual drool puddle on my pillow from that kind of "nap dream" i call it. I looked at the clock, and only 15 or 20 min. had passed. Regular dreams are forgotten as i sit up in bed. But lucid ones seem to stick more. I can remember most of one i had when i was 6!
I have read a book on lucid dreaming, so I understand how to check for signs to see if I am in a dream etc etc. I just don't seem to have a lot of luck doing it. I do smoke weed almost every night before bed, so I'm pretty sure that it must be hampering my dreaming.
lmao... ive had one lucid dreaming experience, it was the worse, it just teased the shit out of me cause i didnt do anything cool. i was dreaming and realized i was, so i was like damn im thirsty, i want a snapple! a snapple was then in my hands, i went to open it and just dropped it.. i got pissed off that it broke and i woke up.
I recorded my dreams for awhile and id read them to myself before going to sleep and every night id come closer to waking up in my dream. And it only happened once. I just started re-recording them so hopefully it will happen again...Its one of those things rettyplease: Lol
I had a lucid dream like a week or two ago... I accidentally drove my car into a large body of water (possibly a river...) and was like no fucking way. This is absolutely a dream. This simply wouldn't have happened like that if it were real life. And then I had control of my dream. Which is rather ironic because ususally car accident dreams for me are about loss of control, but then I gained control over my sleeping mind... Pretty weird.
you guys would get a lot more support over at dreamviews.com... lucid dreaming is great - i had around 40 last month. i couldn't live without it. it's too bad our culture places such little emphasis on dreaming compared to others.
I haven't had lucid dreams since I was really young.... and maybe only 3 or 4 times, but I'll never forget them, you could really have a lot of fun when you realize you're dreaming. Growing up, dreams are definitely a huge source of mind exploration... and so I guess I've had more success playing around with my consciousness in other ways since I was young. I've read up about lucid dreaming induction techniques and I seem to have a problem with them, it doesn't seem to be the way my mind works. For example, everyone says "look for strange things" like trying to turn a light switch on and off and seeing if the light actually changes...... however, in my dreams, I don't usually feel like I'm capable of 'doing' anything. I don't usually feel a strong connection to any body at all, let alone my body. I can't really 'see' myself... is it my mind that cannot perceive itself?
Is lucid dreaming rare? I dream a lot and nearly every dream I have full control over my actions and thoughts, Ive always thought this was normal I know this area doesnt get much traffic but I had 2 completely fuckd up lucid dreams the last two nights, one was just odd and the other was a full blown graphic nightmare during which I was in an extreme state of shock, I actually collapsed from shock in the dream and was fully conscious in the dream, when I woke up it was 4:30am and I had to call a friend of mine..I was mentally ok after it but just felt I had to talk to someone about it. Ig ye want to know the details reply back, only reason Im not typing it out without request is just for the fact that I dont want to type a long thing like that, that probably wont even be read...
I started experiencing them when began to meditate. I feel like someone is going to kill me and I sometimes see a dark figure in my room coming to get me.
I did that too when I was trying to lucid dream.. I think that really helps keep a dream journal and write them all down, right when you wake up in the middle of the night so you dont forget it I remember I would lucid dream when I was a kid too, when I was going to sleep, there was a wheel of subjects I would spin in my mind, and whatever it landed on thats what I would dream about .. I always hated when it landed on UFOs, weird lol
