i was doing some reading up and i notices that Psilocin (C12H16N2O) is very simlar to LSD (C20H25N3O). The only differnece is the nuber of mulicules (exept for oxygen) is increased in lsd. Would there be a way, theroreticly, to make LSD from Psilocin (for those who dont know, Pscilocin is the one of the active chemicals in shrooms and is what psilocybin turns into in the body). please dont rip on me for how impossible or stupid it would be to try this, i dont plan on trying it, im just very intrested in the chemistry of entheogens.
no, LSD-25 is made from ergot If it's made from "psilocin" then it must be something other than LSD-25. This substance would most likely have a similar trip but trips really differ between chemicals. So this, in my opinion would not be LSD-25.
I don't know much about chemistry, but it seems to be a reasonable idea theoretically, although if it were actually do-able I'm guessing it would have been done long ago. Who knows though? I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from investigating the idea further, and please let us know what you find out.
do you REALISE how ridiculous this reasoning is? 'one of teh ways to make lsd is with ergot' 'psylocin is not ergot' therefor 'psylocin is not one of the ways to make lsd'
Can I rip your for this though? He's talking about making LSD-25 from Psylocibin using chemical reactions. If you could make LSD-25 from water, it would still be LSD-25. The original source does not matter.
would melting graphite in with psilocin have any affect whatsoever? raise carbon levels and maybe create a legal designer drug?
zen_master, why are you asking this forum? I don't think anybody here would know. I'd say try the Shroomery's chemistry subforum, or some other psychedelic chemistry forum.
its not just a matter of how many atoms are different between psylocibin and LSD, but where they are different. the molecule's shape is what is important, not a list of its component elements.
im sorry, but you all sound immensly stupid to believe this. thats like saying that we can convert graphite to diamonds with a microwave, or lead into gold by just "plucking" atoms (thats possible, but costs hundreds of times the increase in value)
i dont know exactly what how to do the math, but if psilocin is negetivly charged or what ever in needs one more electron and the carbon has that electron, it should bond. stoner bill is right, it would be a differnt shape, but it should have very simelar effects to psilocin and it would be legal because it isnt a known drug.
i dont think this could reasonably be done...im sure with enough work, the right reagents, and proper knowledge it could be done w/ time...but hardly seems easy or worth it to me
seems like a silly concept. its like saying if you eat come coal, breath oxygen, and drink a little water and nitrous, itll form lsd in your stomach. in laymans terms: you cant turn wood into c02 and h20 by just aiming a fan at it.
it all depends on whether psilocin is positive or negetivle charged, if it needs an electron and you put hydrogen next to it, it will bond, this is actuall chemistry nothing like trying to make lsd inside of you be eating and breathing stuff
no its not as simple as that....read up on some organic chemistry stuff, get some basics and maybe it'll make more sense...theres a lot of rules in orgo...things dont always happen the obvious way
if you bond a hydrogen somewhere in the benzene ring, youll get one effect. ya bond it elsewhere, itll be totally different. its not the number of atoms, but also the positions. otherwise people whould preform simple lsa-lsd conversions to make morning glorys uber powerful
