My name is Traci, and I *sniffle sniffle*... I eat low carb foods. I have been a low carbie for a year and a half. I miss regular pasta, and potatoes.
Watch your calorie and fat intake too. I hate watching people eat a lb of bacon thinking it's helping them. *My aunts on the low carb diet* Good luck everyone.
I'm on the low-carb diet but only by default: I am gluten intolerant which rules out anything made with wheat. I can still eat rice and potatoes though, but I don't eat a lot of that so my carb intake is still significantly reduced.
i'm lc because i have insulin resistance and polycystic ovarian syndrome. my body simply cannot tolerate carbs. when i eat carbs, my body makes too much insulin...it's very dangerous for my health. i almost lost the sight in my left eye because of it. I've been lc for a little over 2 years. (yay me!!) December has been absolutely brutal so far. i got the brilliant idea in my head that i was going to make fudge for people as christmas gifts. so, i've been making all of this fudge, to try to perfect the technique. i have to say, that this was just about the stupidest thing that i've ever done in my life. you know what happened to all the failed batches of fudge, dont you? bah! no more! anyways, there are a zillion low carb 'plans' out there. i've read a lot of the books, and only eat real foods, none of the frankencarbs. LOts and LOts of veggies and healthy fats, hormone-free meats, organic range eggs, etc. if a non lc'er were to come over for dinner, i'm sure that they would be impressed with the quality of the food that i eat.
Have ya ever stayed in a place with a diabetic trying to eat low-carb & not lots of fatty meats and one of their relatives on the Atkins diet. It can get pretty comical in the mornings. Th diabetic eating her yogurt and low-carb toast with thin layer of peanut butter VS the Atkins eater with lots greasy bacon or sausage & few eggs.
low carb is unhealthy for you and unrealistic. they should have autopsied atkins and shown the world what HIS coronary arteries looked like when he died. eat right and excercise
But some of us don't have a choice. We CAN'T have carbs for medical reasons. Besides, it's only shit if you eat a lot of high fat stuff, really. If you do low-carb and low fat, it is pretty healthy as long as you eat a potato or two a week to keep from going into ketosis.
good grief i am eating right and i do exercise did you miss the part where i said that i almost went blind because my body makes too much insulin when i eat carbs?
why is it that when anyone hear "low-carb" they automatically think "high-fat"? If you eat lots of fruit & veggies and a very small amount of meat for dinner (or 1 hard-boiled egg for breakfast) or even have oatmeal for breakfast, then I don't see the problem!! "Low-carb" doesn't mean no carbs at all so if ya want a bowl of oatmeal or a slice of whole grain toast then go right ahead and at it.
Same here I think there is a common misconception about different low carb diets. I do not completely agree with Dr. Atkins and his plan. The plan I follow is a little complicated, but it works. No refined sugar - No products made from white flour, period (choose whole wheat instead) No starch - No potatoes, corn, carrots, coconut, etc. Vegetables should always be a filler. For example, dinner for me consists of a portion of meat, a side salad, and another vegetable side. I do not each a lot of red meat. I stick with chicken, turkey, and fish I also try to stay away from packaged foods because they contain trans fatty acids from hydronated oils. They are what clog your arteries. Fruit - all fruit contains natural sugars. Natural sugars will increase insulin level, so fruit should be eaten sparingly. No more than three pieces a day. I do not have the book with me at the moment, but Suzanne Somers speaks specifically about how food is digested in the system. Proteins and carbohydrates should be eaten seperately, and within three hours of each other Fruit should be eaten twenty minutes before carbohyrdates, and an hour before protein. If fruit is used as a dessert, it should be eaten at least two hours after a meal I will have to check the book out again to be more specific.
i go along the way of Traci also. i dont follow it to a T but i do what feels right and eating bread, pizza, potatos, rice, and pasta all day does not make me feel good. i feel like garbage eating all those carbs. america is addicted to carbs.
Someone mentioned a low fat diet. Here is why eating a diet too low in fat can be bad for your health - http://hipforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=48512&postcount=4
I do eat some carbohydrates, but I choose whole wheat products and I try to eat them sparingly. Carbohydrates provide fuel for the body, so un-like Dr. Atkins plan, eliminating completely is not healthy. However, even whole wheat products should be eaten in moderation as they have a small affect on insulin. whole wheat bread (when I do not feel like cooking) They have one with no carbs, no additives, and no trans fats. whole wheat pretzels (sometimes as a snack) whole wheat pasta (at least once a week) I am going to go back to eating only one whole wheat product a day.
