Anyone else catch the first part of this series (of five episodes) that started at 9.30 on BBC1 tonight? Biographical dramatization of the story of a Leicester girl who gets a job as a nanny in early 80s London. Best thing is she likes to go barefoot all the time (at least in this....in real life from what I read she denies that she went barefoot quite so much....). Anyway, lets hope that like the barefooting celebs we've seen recently, it helps make it more acceptable. Plot wise not a lot happens tbh, but it does gently take the mick out of a certain rather pompous stratum of London society. Worth a look.
Yep. In that first episode she only wore shoes for her job interview, and then only put them on when she reached the employer's front door . Have to say I've mixed feelings about it after the second episode. The barefoot thing seems to be if anything a little overdone, as though it was written by a fetishist who wants to bring it up as often as possible. Would be better if she were just casually barefoot, without anyone needing to mention it. From what I've read, she didn't actually always go barefoot in real life anyway. The storyline, such as it is, is thin in the extreme, too. Still, I'll stick with it as gently amusing Friday night entertainment.
I think its a good thing as it brings barefooting into the mainstream on Friday night TV. Not much happening yet in the storyline of the show but its good to see her prancing around in and out barefoot . Though she did wear plimsolls on the bike and on her date in the second episode.
